California Highway Patroi Sends Letter to Santa Oiaus Deal 1 Santa Claus: This is a very special letter and we hope you will have time to read it. It isn't the regular kind of letter you get each Christmas, but we think it is very important. We don't want you to pass up any of the other requests vou get from little boys and girls throughout the world. Those cuddly dolls, electric trains, sweaters, dresses, wagons, (runs, picture hooks, and other t h i n g s dear to the hearts of little ones--keep giving them out. They're important. And we don't want you to miss visitine the hospitals and sick beds where you rate so high. The hovels and shacks on your list must be remembered too, because it's so important that the poor not lose faith. Yes, we want you to fill all the other requests and then fill ours. We are not asking for something for ourselves alone, it's for everybody. We want California to have the safest and merriest Christmas it has ever had, and we believe you can help. Pack your bag with generous portions of courtesy for every automobile driver. Sprinkle this courtesy with consideration and judgment. Add some restraint for those who may be inclined to over indulge in the wrong way. Give guidance to our pedestrians so they will stay out of danger. This is our plea for Christmas, Santa, and we make it in memory of all those who died in traffic last Christmas and New Years. Sincerely, THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL 22 December, 1949.
