In the Hustings court yesterday in the case of Samuel Belcher vs. The Norfolk and Western Railroad com? pany, defendant filed a plea of accord In the case of Lee A' Keffer vs. W. Pope, an action of debt, defend ant filed a plea of nil debit and off? sets. Judgment was entered against defendant, which was set aside and the case continued.

In the case of Downy Co. vs. J. 15. Webb, an action of debt, the plea nil debit was entered by the defend? ant and the office judgment was set aside.

The following persons filed their' petitions against the commonwealth, of Virginia in coupon cases: John Vick. Miss M. L. Terry. S.

W. son, A. Gale and P. L. Terry.

Dr. J. N. Wayt, of Staunton, an ex? tensive owner of real estate in this city, and one of the directors of the street railway company, is in the city. Dr.

Wayt has done mveh to build the Roanoke street railway, which is one of the most important enterprises ever inaugurated in this city, and he and his associates deserve every encouragement for their liber? ality in aiding the building up of this city. Sentenced to Be Hauced. Judge of Franklin county, has sentenced George Early. William Wood, Byrd Wood, and Nannie Wood, four of the negroes convicted of firing the town of Rocky Mount on the nignt of October 17. to be hanged.

There are two others charged with being accessories yet to be tried. Twenty-four buildings were de? stroyed. Death of Two Esteemed The Clinch Valley News, of Friday, publishes the death of Miss Saliie (-ill iespie, daughter of George W. Gil lespie. Escp, a young lady much beloved by all who knew her.

Also the of Mrs. Josephine Kelly, wife of Judge James P. Kelly, who died on Saturday. Many friends will regret to hear of the death of these two most estimable ladits. Arrival of Iinuiisrrants.

Immigrants for the western portion of the state are lauding at Norfolk daily, which is a very healthy sign for this section. Roanoke and this part of the valley of Virginia offer peculiar attractions to settlers, and if Commis? sioner Whitehead will stir himself he will be able to do very much for this Bection of the commonwealth.
