Tciflh Strut. The Houston Post of last Satur day publishes a lengthy article re garding the active work now being pushed on the Trinity and Brazos Valley, the Beaumont, Sour Lake and Western, and the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico -railroads, all parts of the great Yoakum system in Texas, and all building towards Houston. The Post is of the opinion that there is a race on between the three lines, each trying to reach Houston first. "From the says the Post, the Trinity and Brazos Valley, that has already closed a big gap up in the central part of the state, in order to become a part of the first eighty miles that were constructed under the R- H.

Baker management, from Cleburne to Mexia, and the southern end of the line is poking its head along the Brazos valley in the direction' of Houston, until today it is within thirty miles of this city, and that thirty miles is being clipped off a rail length at a time, news of activity from the other builders now and then reaching the ears of Mr. Sweeney, who urges his men to greater efforts that they will be in at the finish. "From the east comes the Beaumont. Sour Lake and Western. This construction is almost to Trinity river, and the builders are being hurried just as if there was a bonus depending upon it reaching the city of Houston before the others.

They are putting down the ties and the track just as fast as men can put steel and timber together. From the west comes Jeff N. I Miller with his railroad. He is building the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico, and is working as hard as he can with his line so as to complete it into Houston before the others.

The construction of bridges is what is delaying him, but he insists there is no race on. However, the lookers-on believe they can see something of a Gar rison finish in the plans of the builders and that each man in charge of a property is anxious to report first to Mr. Yoakum that he is in Houston SPLEXDID SPECTACLE "it has been suggested that neither road will win the race, and that plans are making to bring the three ends of the big system together at one and the same-time. Accordine to a man "who says he knows all about it, it is understood this finish will be sensational. The completion of three railroads into a town at one time is a big thing Manv people in Houston do not seem to realize how great a propos ition is on foot with three branches of a great system being pushed this way at one and the same time.

The railroad men will show them. If the program suggested is carried out, no line will push ahead of the other. They will work along together, and finally, when everything is in readiness to reach the terminals on a fixed date there will be a big celebration, business men and city officials will join together on one hand to welcome, and. the railroad people will come in triumph, Jeff Miller from one way, Mr. Sweeney from another, and T.

Forbes from another, and all completed by pulling two ends of the track together at Lott, in Falls county, at a time when Mr. Yoakum was in charge of the property, he went to the scene in his private rear and put down the spike, while the people of the town fired anvils." Hidalgo Happenings. The sugar cane at the San Juan Plantation is in prime order, 'and the yield will be an immense one. Mrs. Jas.

TWELVE BRIDGES ON THE BROWNSVILLE ROAD Mr. Miller Explains Delay in Completion of Road to Houston Permanent Steel Bridges Building. The Houston papers of Sunday report the departure of General will clasp hands within the city of Manager Jeff N.

Miller of the Houston, making it spectacular. Mr. Yoakum is a faddist on this "last spike" question. When the Waco branch of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass property was Brownsville road, in company with President Sam Lazarus of the Houston Belt and Terminal Company, for St. Louis, where an important meeting of Rock Island officials was to be held this week.

General Manager Jeff N. Miller of the St. Louis Brownsville and Mexico railroad, who was in Houston recently, is quoted by the Post of that city as follows: "The Brownsville road was completed to Algoa April 24, and we took the first train into Galveston. Since that time the road has been completed. We had-arranged crossings at the river of a temporary nature so as to use the line untii we could get in the permanent steel structures.

But a rise in the Brazos took away the false work and we chatted our plans and determined lo take out the temporary work and put in the permanent. We are now putting iu. badges across the San Antonio river, the Garcites, the Guadalupe, the L-vaca, the Navidad, the Brazos, the San Bernardo, Chocolate bayou, Aransas river, Mission river, Jfuces and Arroyo Colorado. Of these bridges those across the Guadalupe, Lavaca, Navidad, Brazos, San Bernardo, Chocolate bayou and Nueces are drawbridges. They are all within 80 per cent of completion, and are built of the heaviest material.

We are putting in the strongest construction, as a permanent and the roadway-is being ballasted. It will be a joy forever." Mr. Miller was given a cordial welcome by his friends iu Houston. Paint Your Buggy for to $1.00 with Devoe's Gloss Car riage Paint. It weighs 3 to 8 02s.
