THE DAILY HERALD. SATURDAY, JANUARY 13. 1906. Immigration Edition. THE BROWNSVILLE DAILY HERALD, believing the time is opportune for the publicatioa of an attractive Immigration and Souvenir Edition for circulation in the north, exploiting the wonderful resources of the section known as the Brownsville and Lower Rio Grande Country, is now engaged in gathering and compiling information, state ments of fact, that cannot help but appeal to the immigrant and investor.

This edition will be handsomely illustrated, printed on heavy book paper, and will be gotten up in such form as will make an attractive exponent of the varied possibilities of the section represented. The tide of immigration southward and to Texas is now on. We have an inviting country that the outside world knows comparatively little about. This edition will be published on or about February 15th and by ex-fending a cordial and practical support to the enterprise proposed, good results are bound to follow. Let us get together and join in pushing our section to the front.

Porter was about the best pleased man in town today, and the cause of it all was that Mrs. Porter and the two little girls were to arrive on this afternoon's train. Mr. Porter went to Harlingen on the 3 o'clock train to meet his family. A Herald man asked Lon Hill what he was doing at his Rincon ranch, and received the characteristic reply that he was turning the land over and getting it ready to plant things.

"Things" mean a variety of products that attain their greatest perfection in this section, and include cane and some cotton. "it must be seen to be appreciated," is the verdict of recent visitors to the farm of P. E. Blalack, a couple of miles from town. Cabbage and truck of almost every description is thriving with magnificent luxuriousness and are a positive cure for afflicted eyes.

Soon the young cane will begin to come forth, and will be another at tractive sight. The wedding of Miss Ida Dodd, daughter of Capt. and Mrs. Thos. W.

Many parents make the mistake of allowing their chil dren to enter the second or third week, and may be the second month of the term, and are then ready to raise a kick because the progress made is not so satisfactory as they think is should be. J. K. Roberstson, superintendent of the experimental has resigned his position and will move with his family to the Brownsville country, where he will continue in the trucking business. He informs us he will pay especial attention to the raising of celery.

As yet no one has been appointed his successor. The friends of Mr. Robinson, wish for him and his family prosperity in their new home. Beeville Picayune. Mr.

The examining of Louis Hernandez, who was arrested a few days age in connection with the recent theft, of drawnwork from the residence of F. V. Boss, was held at 9 o'clock this morning before Judge Gavito. In the trial it was brought out that defendant had pawned a lot of drawnwork at the saloon of Damaso Cautu for two bottles of whisky about the first of January.

The accused, howeveri denied having pawnedthe articles and named another, who has not yet been arrested. After hearing evidence in the case, Judge Gavito bound the defendant over in the sum of $250, to await action of the grand jury. Bond has not yet been given. The performance, "Ten Nights in a Bar Room," was presented by Cook Bt others in their big tent last night to large audience. The play was very well presented, some of the performers being worthy of special mention.

This was true of "Baby Berdine," who in rnle of Joe Morgan's daughter, pleased the audience very much. It was little short of wenderful how one so young (possibly not more than five years old) could repeat her lines with such precision at no time becoming confused or forgetting hear cue. The part of Sample Switchell was also well played, and very neatly portrayed the inebriate. The specialties between acts were appreciated by the audience, as was also the concert after the p.rformance. The play will be reproduced tonight with an entirely new line of specialties, Among the passengers going out this morning was Dr.

J. A. L. Waddell, and his brother, Robert W. Waddell.

both of Kansas City. The gentlemen have been at Point Isabel the past week enjoying rare sport hunting and fishing, and were much disappointed that their efforts to hook a few tarpon were unrewarded. Dr. J. A.

L. Waddell is a consulting engineer of national repute, aud built all the bridges along the I. G. N. road.

In addition to this he it was who prepared plans and specifications for the railroad tunnel under Beh-ring strait, beween Siberia aud Alaska, a distance of 36 miles, which, when completed, will be one cf the greatest engineering feats of modern times. While no information was obtainable, the visit of Dr- Waddell at this time is currently supposed to have some connection with the location of a bridge over the Rio Grande, about which all kinds of rumors are rife. This bridge question is one in which eyery citizen is vitally in-terestedyiud has come to be a nine days wonder, which time alone can relieve.
