There is certainly no pait of the state that needs anoh roads more than Mendocino county does, and a movement has already bean started here to try and bring the whole county in line on this subject. For a starter it is suggested that we have one good road from the north of Oloverdale to Laytonville, which would follow the present trail through Ukiah to Willits and from here it would go down outlet creek and up valley creek to Laytonville, A petition is now being circulated asking the supervisors to build the first ten miles portion north of Willits to what is known as the Fisher ranch on Outlet creek.

The land owners will give ths right of way. Eventually tbis road will be extended through to Humboldt. Several parties from the nortwest- eru part of the county have been here during tho past few days and all i 'New Lick HoUoO, south east oor- are ayreod that the road from Slier- ner of Fftb and Mission streuts, oji- wnod to tho Iluuiboldfc line is in the posite U. Antone Bettencourt, died here Sunday evening at nine o'clock, of tuberculosis. She had been ailing for some months and gradually grew worse until the dread disease finally took her off. It has seldom fallen to the lot of the Beacon to chronicle a sadder death than that of Bernice Boyle, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.

J. Boyle, which occured at this place at 4 o'clock Wednesday morning. Joe King, of Usal, made an all night ride to Mendocino Monday to be present at the funeral of Mary A. Almeida. The deceased was a favorite cousin of Mr.

King's and he desires to thank all the frjends who helped to make her last hours comfortable and who assisted at the funeral. Louis Berlin, a cross-cutter employed at Boyle's camp, had a shoulder blade broken Saturday and came to town not aware that any bones were broken. Upon examination Dr. Peirsol found that there was something seriously wrong. Mr.

Berlin was not so badly injured, however, as to prevent his going on the street and greeting his friends. John McDonald, who works on a skidder at Boyle's camp, met with an accident on Friday of last week which almost cost him a leg. Ho slipped on the skidway and a while in motion caught one of Jiis iHtis. The flesh was crushed to a pulp and the blood vessels badly injured. No bones were bvokim but it is has required great wkill to save the leg.

He is at the Mendocino hospital. Prof. Nicholson stepped on a nail Saturday and badly injured his foot. He intended to leave the first cf the week and lead a cow presented to by Stotnetta to Ukiah in real "Clodhopper" style, but the accident prevented that and he started yesterday on horseback. The trustees of the Point Arena union high school met Saturday and discussed the school building proposition. All were heartily in favor of going right to work, feeling that the building was a necessity.

The Young People's Christian Union will met in annual oonventioQ this evening in the Methodist church, A number of good speakers will be present from up the coast and an interesting program rendered.
