I Si 9r 1 fe IN REGULAR MEETING The Organized Charities Society held a regular annual meeting in the city hall yesterday afternoon at 3 oclock with the president Dr Moore presiding Present were Mesdames Durham Teah Gould Brown Normlngton and Barefield and Messrs Moore Ful llnwlder Anderson and Rev Andrews was present as a visitor Mrs Brown was secretary of the meeting The accounts of the treasurer and executive and distributing committees were audited and found correct President Moore made a statement of the condition of the organization and some of the work done during the past year and also told of the needs of the various wards His report was encouraging and showed that the society Is doing a magnificent work and It also showed that there is much work to be done by such an organization The nominating committee was not ready to make a report on ofifcers for the next year and the president adjourned the meeting until next Monday afternoon at 3 oclock at which time the society will meet in the office of Mr Fnllinwidcr in the Gregg Link building when the nominating committee Is expected to make its report At this meeting a full financial report will also be made Rev Andrews of St Philips church who was present as a guest made an offer to the society to accept the proceeds of a Harvest Festival to be held In his church next Wednesday eve ning the society to get the benefits of the service The offer was promptly accepted Further notice of this ser vice appears In another column of this Issue of the Herald This Is a good work and all of the people of the city should join in It ORGANIZED CHARITIES Benefit Service at St Philips Church A harvest Thanksgiving service will be held at St Philips church Wednes day night next Nov 27 for the bene fit of the Organized Charities of this city Farmers truck growers mer chants and others are cordially Invited to contribute of their store as athanl offering unto the Lord who glveth all and for the relief of the poor and Br All kinds of vegetables fruit grain and other garden and field pro duce groceries dry goods etc in small or large quantities are accept able Such gifts should be brought to the church corner Oak and North Sycamore not later than Wednesday morning and will be displayed at the service Money offerings may be made at the service Mr Culver and the choir of St Philips church have prepared a program of special music for the occasion The dlstrbuting committee of the Organized Charities will distribute the gifts among the poor of the city on the following day Thanksgiving We are favorable circumstances Rev Johnson conducted devotional services The services were highly spiritual and everybody seemed to enjoy the opening It Is not a usual thing to see so much Interest manifested in an annual conference The financial interest ran high the reports by the different pastors added much to this interest Rev Stout of Little Rock Ark was on hand to represent the Church Extension Department The confer ence listened with marked interest while Dr Stout told of his success in Norfolk Va This department of the church is accomplishing much good through the labor or Dr Stout He is also president of the Williams Industrial College located at Little Rock Ark During the session of the conference which is now being held In the city of Palestine It will lie clearly demonstrated what the bishop of the Fifth Episcopal District stands for In fact the colored Methodist Episcopal church stands for all that is noble in the negro race Among the distinctive principles for which the church stands Is christian education It Is now believed that If there Is a negro problem christian education will greatly aid in the solution Rev Stnrks of Tyler Texas preached a powerful sermon to an appreciative audience on last night He is an excellent preacher and has a great reputation During the recent educational rally at Dallas he was crowned money king of the state involved in a difficulty and the latter was very severely cut on the body and limbs In several places with a pocket knife the worst gash being in the fore part of the thigh The police department was notified immediately of the difficulty and had two officers sent to the scene but Wallace had disappeared He was lo cated however about 5 oclock this morning arrested and locked up In the city hall Holt Is at his home now at 703 Flower street and Is reported to be resting easy It Is not thought that the wounds will prove fatal He is an engineer at the Crosby hotel The dif ficulty It is reported
