Be it Ltkown and remembered that we the nudernigned jnry comnissioners of the parish of Grant. dilly appointed and qualifed accrding to law, met this day in the clerk's office, in the court house, at Colfax, Grai parish, to draw a jtnr to serve at the term of the district court, to be holden on the First Tuesday of May, 1886, it being the 4th day of May, 18t6. B. clerk of the district court, for use at the next term of the court.

The 8 B. Shackelford, clerk of the district court, did then and there, in our keep a preces verbal of all the acts done by said commissioner" il said drawing, which we certify to be correct by cur signatures, this 8th day of March. A. D. 18e6.

Members present-A. L. Grow, president; D. P. Morris, ward W.

N. Creed, ward three; M. Nugent, ward four; P. Collins, ward five; J. T.

Wilson, ward six; J. W. Land, ward seven. On motion of M. Nugent the preident appointed W.

N. Creed and RII. Williamson qa committee to go with C. A. Wickli and examine the river road between H.

McKnight and Andy Harris. On motion the president appointed J. W. Land, D. P.

Morris and J. T. Wilson as committee on claims, and W. N. Creed, M.

Nugent and A. P. Collins as committee to examine the treasurer's and tax collector's books. On motion the jury adjourned until 3 p. m.

The jury met pursuant to adjournmnent, same members present as in the morning. On motion of M. NugentBe it ordained by the polioe jury, That the tax collector be and he is hereby instructed to proceed and collect the taxes that are due and unpaid on the railroad lands in Grant parish as the law directs. On motion of A. P.

Collins the resolution offered by Mr. Nugent was made the special order for to-morrow morning at 9 a. m. On motion of D. P.

Morris the jury adjourned until to-morrow morning at 9 a. n. April 6th, the jury met pursuant to adjournment. Same members present as yesterday. The minutes of yesterday were read and adopted.

The resolution offered by Mr. Nugent, relative to the collection of the railroad taxes, was unanimously adopted. Onm motion of A. P. Collins J.

M. Guyues and David Gatling were appointed road reviewers in place of A. J. Dunn and Joseph Rambeau. The committee appointed to examine the road between H.

McKnight and Andy Harris made the following report, which was read and adopted, and committee discharged: To the Hesoraobl the PoHtce Jrry of Great Parish, Losiasas We the committee appointed by your honorable body to examine and report upon the most practical route to locate the Colfax and Cotile road from the lower end of McKnight's lane to the Raven Camp plantation line, would beg leave to report, that we have examined the ground and animously agree that the best and practical route is through the lan opened by Andy Harris, and recom end that route be adopted. CreedBe it ordained, That the road did trict on the Three Notch road, extending from Little creek to Big creek, be divided into two road districts as follows: One road district shall extend from Little creek to the head of Mill creek, and the other district shall extend from the head of Mill creek to Big creek and that Jesse McCay be appointed road overseer of the road district from Little creek to the head of Mill creek, and Richard Brown from time head of Mill creek to Big creek for the remainder of time ear. Thee. Queen was appointed road overseer on the Three Notch road from Big creek to Harrisonburg road. Following resolution adopted Resolved by the poies That the president appoint a committee to conser with H.

McKnight, C. C. Nash, C. H. Teal, S.

B. Shackelford and J. A. Kelsoe for the purpose of securing their signatures to a contract entered into between them and the police jury relative to the establishing of the road from Colfax to Boggy bayou. The president appointod J.

W. Land and J. T. Wilson as a committee to confer with the above parties. Thie jury adjourned nutil 2 p.

m. to give the committee appointed to confer with McKnight and others time to report. The jury met pursuant to adjou rnment, same members presentas in the nmorning. Time jury adjourned until 9 a. m.

to give the coommittees further time to report. April 7th, the jury met pursuant to adjournment, same members present as yesterday. The minutes of yesterday read and adopted. Preldast Memsers of the PFli Jry We the undersigned committee appointed to examine the tax collector's, sheriff's and treasurer's books, would report that we have made as critical an examination of the books as we were able, and find the same well kept and correct, and that the treasurer's report is also correct as shown by the tax collector's and treasurer's books. We further report that we have in our hands thirty-one dollars in jury certificates for the year 1885, received from the treasurer, which we recommend to be burned. W. N.

CaERD, Chairman. On motion of D. P. Morris the claim of J. B.

Smith from Bienville parish for attending as a witoess in the case of the State of Louisiana vs. Thos. McGrath was allowed for the sum of twenty-six dollars. The yeas and nays being called, D. P.

Morris, J. T. Wilson and J. W. Land voted yea, and W.

N. Creed, M. Nugent and A. P. Collins voted nay.

There being a tie the president voted yea. The jury adjourned until 2:30 p. m. The jury met pursuant to adjournment, same members present as in the morning. The committee on claims made the following report, which was read and adopted, and committee discharged We your committee appointed to examine the claims against the parish have examined the following claims and recommend that they be paid A.

The president appointed M. Nugent and A. P. Collins as a committee to ascertain the financial standing of the parish. The jury adjourned until 9 a.

m. to give the committees further time to report. April 8th, the jury met pursuant to adjournment. Same members present as yesterday. On motion the president appointed J.

T. Wilson, H. McKnight and H. Faraldo as a committee to make an estimate of what it would cost to make a judge's stand and put two windows in the rear end of the court house. The committee made the following report, which was read and adopted We time undersigned committee appointed to draft a plan for a judge's stand, and windows for the court house, respectfully report as follows There should be a platform about 18 inches high and 10 feet long, with a desk 8 feet long, and 3 feet high in front, sloping baIk 3 or 4 inches lower; to cost about 825.

Also three windows in the moth end of the house, the same size of the other windows; to coet $25. The whole to be done in a good workmanlike manner and neatly painted. We would further recommend the building of a table about 3 feet wide and 12 feet long, oblong in shape, for the ue of the clerk and members of the bar. Respectfully, J. T.

The jury met pursuant to adjournment. D. P. Morris made a motion to renew the contract with J. C.

Collis and J. T. Wilson voted nay. There being a tie the president voted yea. J.W.

Laud who voted in affrmative moved to reconasider the vote. The vote was reconsidered. A vote was then taken, and the motion of D. P. Morris relative to employing J.

C. Wicklife as counsel was rejected. On motion of D. P. Morrisesolved, That the president be ad he is hereby rathorised to make sueh chanes in the report of the committee on judge's stand, windows sad table, ashemay deem best; and, be it further Reolved, That the president be and he is antherised to advertise atnd let oat to the lowest bidder to do said work aecording to the recommendation of the committee with the alterations made by the presidrent.

IKles, rugt er Ioqae Kelase, of the esesd pmt witasmeth: Itmaagr byq all psts thatthe Colfax and Montgomery road shall run as follows: From the point where it crosses Boggy bayou to Red river, commencing at Boggy ford, it shall run as near as practcable on the line between Bock Island plantation and the lands owned by the parties of the second part, on the east side of the bayou, and as near the bayou bank as possible; provided, however, that at the points where it meets the two ravines running into said bayou said road shall run around to as near the beads of said ravines as will make a practicable eressing; provided, further that any one, at any time, shall put up a good substantial bridge, to be approved by the police jury, the road shall be telned at that point so as to cross said bridge or bridges. Collins-B is ordained by stk polis jwry of Grant parish Louissesa, That the president of the police jury will ascertain what ferries under the control of this police jury are unlet, or what leases of ferries will expire before the first Monday in January 1887, and that he will, as soon as possible, advertise and lease all such terries to that date.

Be it furer ordained, That shall hereafter, commencing in January, 1887, be the duty of the preesident of this police jury to advertise according to law, commencing a suficient time before, so as to enable him to offer on the first Monday of January of each year all ferries the leases of which expire that day; and on said Monday he shall lease at public outcry, to the highest and best bidder, as the law directs, all unleased ferries, for periods of not less than one nor more than five years, according as he may be instracedby the jury. Si or That the president of the pollee jury shall procure a book, and draw his warrant on the parih treasurer for the payment bqrefor, in which he shall keep a lies of all the public ferries in this parish, together with their nds, bondsmen, er leases, and when said leases conhnes and expise.
