lining up affiliates in Texas for the launch of Azteca America a new Spanish-language network that was to be operating by the end of June A deal has reached an impasse that would make Dallas television station KXTX Channel 39 the hub of the Spanish-language network KXTX Channel 39 general manager Bill Murphy refused to comment and referred all inquiries to Pappas Telecasting Michael Angelos special assistant to Harry Pappas the chief executive officer of Pappas Telecasting Companies directed all inquiries to the company's new public relations firm BSMG Worldwide "Azteca America will not comment on the specifics of the discussions with potential stations for our says spokesperson Anne Burkheimer Pappas Telecasting Companies and the Mexican television network TV Azteca entered into a $500 million deal last year to launch a new Spanish-language network in the United States The network would compete with Univision and Telemundo for Spanish-speaking viewers The plan announced cost Pappas the ninth- 10th- and 14th-ranked Hispanic television markets in the United States Competing with established Spanish-language stations would be tough Univision which reaches 92X of U5
