She was sick since Sunday. She contracted the disease on account of the loose methods of sanitation in the borough. Children from infected families were allowed to go to school. Now when it is too late, the schools are closed. Miss Gearhard was born Oct.

3, 1873. She was graduated from the Keystone State Normal School, at Kutztown, in 1893 and since then has been teaching at Pennsburg. Her father died 18 years ago. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Maggie Gearhard, and one sister, Annie.
