News-Hesald Special. Lyncububo, June 8, 1887. A magnificent game of ball was played here Friday between tbe Hillsboro and Lynchburg clubs.

The home team outplayed the visitors in all points. They batted Merkle very hard, while the vis itors were unable to secure but a few scattering hits off of Murphy's delivery. Thompson's 2d base work was the fea ture of the game, while R. Murphy's 1st base playing, D. Murphy's pitching and Day's catching was excellent.

Day, tbe promising young catcher of the Lynchburg nine, bids fair to rival "Doc" Bushong or Jimmy Keenan as champion catchers. Minder, on third, did well. Foraker and Schermerdid the best work for the visitors. Merkle was knocked out of the box in the fifth inning, and Mullenix took his place in the sixth, but was no better, and Merkle was reinstated in the 8th. Quite a number of people witnessed the game.
