A the political camprfgn. of 18C5 has closed, we purpose opening our agricultural column the -discussion of such subjects, as directly interest the farmers of old Gallia. At the present time, tie most important, is the manufacture of Sorghum syrup. The crop of cane this year is very large, and the yield of, syrup will be enormous. It is estimated that the surplus product will fully equal the amount consumed in the county.

This will go far toward. op the deficiency in tho wheat crop, and enable many of our farmers to turn a short corner in financial affairs, with out difficulty. The apparatus and machinery for grinding the cane and evaporating the juice, that are now in use, enable the manufacturer to produce a very superior article oT syrup at a greatly reduced price. There is no doubt, still much room for the improvement in this department, in the bay of constructing suitable buildings for the machinery, and sheds for storing the cane. These are matters which will be attended to in season, as the business of manufacturing becomes establish ed at certain points most convenient to the farmers who raise The cane.

We expect in a year or two to find a factory of this description in every township, as flouring mills are now Wheu this is the case, the manufac turer who makes the best article at the lowest rates, will of course obtain the custom. Several are now in operation in various parts of the county, that will be greatly enlarged, nest season. Mr. Charles Clendenin designs erecting one on his farm near Gallipolis, that will be capable of manufacturing all the cane raised in the vicinity. He is now manufacturing a very superior article of syrup, at the rate of CO gallons per day.

It sells read-ily at 75 cents per gallon. Mr. E. Waddle of Perry township has a still more extensive establish iuent, but have no report from him as yet, relating to Lis success. The fine weather we have had for two weeks past, is very, favorable to the tutting and hauling the cane.

For the curing of the blades and tops asJ an article of fodder, it. is as fine as could be desired. Every farmer 6hould save as much of 'he latter as practicable, inasmuch as both hay and straw this year have been greatly injured by rain. Farmers who have tested the value of the lops as .1 a 1 auou ior worses, 6ueep or cattle, rate them as fully equal to oats in sheaf. The blades are fully equal to corn blades, and as they must of necessity b3 removed, why not' cure them at ouce.

are anxious to have all the information we can get on this subject placed before our readers. Sorghum is certain to be one of the staple products of Gallia county. It is the interest of all her citizens to make it so. For this purpose every farmer should post himself on the essential points of raising a-gooii crop. This season will prov a great many theories on the subject false, and affirm many to be true, that were doubted.
