3ec advertisement. There aro undoubtedly some bold thieves in our city at present, as tlio two 'biircrlarics of the past week, noted elsewhere, clearly show. It behooves our people to be on their guard against theso depredators. A fino mill, and mill scat, on Raccoon, is offered for sale. See ad vertisement.

iCSTWe are under obligations to our member of the Legislature, John Law- son, for public documents. ifSTOur Washington letter, this week, is of unusual interest to our peo ple. It contains sutnrestions which it will be well for them to heed. We may be on the air-line route from Washing ton to Cincinnati our natural advan tages may be paramount to all others we may, even, bo tho "hub" of the air-line railroad from Washington tt Cincinnati yet, without- interest or ef fort on the part of pur people, it may missus, and leave us "outin tho cold." Others, more active and energetic, may secure its location elsewhere. Our people need to think of these things, and when the emergency comes, act prompt- ly and decisively.

STA city co.temporarysuggests canized for the rmrnose of ahatintr A some of the nuisances about town. We trust no such thing will be done. One illegal act never cured another illegal act. Every one will admit that these nuisances should "be aba- ted, but let it be done in eoaformity to and not hv mnh vinlnnen The law is ample for the purpose, if rigidly enforced, and wc believe our oiiicers will do that every case properly Drought to tueir notice. 1ft done in the way our cotomDorarv way our suggests, the result will be, probably, more or less injury to property, andthen the presentation of a bill "Which-lhe tax-payers of the city will navc to foot.

We enter our protest against all such work. "S3 Onryonng friend, A. A. Stewart, of the Company, was in town Saturday, on business connected, with that "reliable" insurer against loss by fire. His speciality is advertising and supplies, and seems well up to his "biz." Ho reports the Journal- as having tho largest subscrip- tion list ofVany country paper in South- em Ohio, Burolarv.

The store of Messrs. C. Miller fe Son was entered by thieves last Wednesday night. Tho'en- rance was effected by cutting a hole through, the ireather-boarding in the the building. There was taken 81G50, currency in the drawer; one bolt of farmer's satin, a bucket, and a few pounds of sugar, the whole amounting to about 40.

The large safo.of the firm bore evidence of having been tampered with, but no entrance was effected. The thief came nearer his end, that night, than probably ever A spring gun was connected with the door leading' from the back Troom, into which the entrance was effected, to the storeroom. The cap of, he gun was found exploded, thus showing that the thief'entered tbatway, and that by an acciden.t!alono was he saved from receiving the heavy charge of tho gun. We hope that he, or the community, -whichever you please, will havo belter luck next time. Justices op the Peace.

While in Gallipoli3, recently, we could not help noticing the progress of the commendable work of grading the wlifirf, leveling the streets and public square, ifcc, showing an en terprise in the city government worthy of imitation bv some others.
