Editor. -Saturday, July 22, 1S05. General Aspect of Affairs. A general survey of the condition of things throughout the world; or at least in Europe and America, does not impress one with the idea of the stability of affairs, or the permanency of the present order of rule and power. England is in a turmoil.

The Parliament about to expire has failed to'meet the public. expectation on the questions of "reform now agitated in that country. It has passed a vote of censure oa the goyernmont; so that there is censure all around no confidence, no unity, no cordiality any where.and but for servility of the lower classes', who are taught from their infancy to regard livened dust wuh something akin to reve'rance, there would be revolution and anarchy there, or ari overthrow of royal and aristocratic rule. But in no nation under heaven, probably, is there as much of the lord and the snob as in England. The masses almost lick tho dust of the feet of the nobility; and are absolutely abject in the deference thoy pay to my lotd' and 'my Until this feeling is removed, reform will grow slowly in Britain.

A few noble souls are doing all thpy can to break the shackles, but the progress made is by no means encouraging as compared with other the work is surely going on, and truth, right, and liberty must pre-vailin the end. Just now the cauldron is boiling. In-France by a recent election, a district has been carried against Napoleon by 2,000 majority, where, before, there was hardly any opposition. This shows the Ethperor-of the French that his policy is 'rebuked. This result was achieved In the face of nil the patronage and espionage of the government.

It is a denunciation of the. interference- in Mexican 'affairs, and it may be a defi ancu hurled at the head of Bonaparte. Evidently France ia ripening for another revolution. Between Maximillian and our cov-rnment there is every appearance of a breach. Things cannot remain as they aie long on the border, without result- upon which, for pro'ection, we ase placing armed vessels.

The authoritie there must behave themselves. "We can, 'whip the world" is (he feclino- of the, nation, and we are not disposed to be. insulted. AlldgetherafF.iirs look rather squally. and wo Minll not be iurpiited at anv time to hear of a rnpmrc at some point.

Our County. Mk. 'Js'EGixr, the active agent and enterprising correspondent of the Atchison "Free Press, in a communication to that paper dated Oskaloosa, June 23, IG65, makes the followinif mention of places in this County. The letter from which'We-extract is one of a'series of "Xotes hy the Way." in which' 'the writer ''has' done much to tiling to notice the various places and propeities of the State. The Press is entitled to no small i-tedit for its enterprise in this matter.

But to the letter: Mount Florence is a small in the southwest corner of Jefferson county, 10 miles northeast of Topeka. At this place, at the -depth of 40 feet, the water is strongly impregnated with Silt licks arc plenty for era! miles aiound the village. The grass upon th prairies is very line. For raising slock this section is certainly tfoll adapted. Good farms are also in thii vicinity.

"The town of O-sawkee is upon the urasshoppor, near the centre of Jefferson county. Considerable trade is done tit tl.is. point." The town has not improved mucli of late yeais. A nod class of'cilizens reside here, with con siderable enterprise an 1 intelligence. The farms in the viemity are under a high state of The soil is about three feel in depth and very rich.

This section is thickly settled. There three stores, several simps, and one t.u'el in Osawkee. "The Independent, a neat seven- column paper, now in its fifth year, is published at this place by J.

"The citizens of Oskaloosa aio enter prising, intelligent and spare no pains to add to the comfort as well as the pleasure of those who may be so for tunate as to visit their cosy town. "The- surrounding country is well settled, having a sufficient body of tim ber lo meet all demands, an excellent quality of rock and water.
