OCTOBIER 11.1878. DEMOCRATIC STATE TICKET. MAJOi E. A. BURKE, OF ORLUARS.

FORB SBNATOR: L. H. BOWDEN, of Plandkltn. FOR COONRESS FIFTH DISTRICT. SLONa rRn J.

FLOYD KING, SHOlT Tmn JOHN S. YOUNG, of Claiborne. OIJACUITA PARIatI TICKET. F03 55FP3535TATIVB: W. P.

FOR PARIS 0on IF WALTER S. LOGAN. J. W. OC E.

Wild pigeons have made their appearance, but in small numbers. You may want to vote on the 5th of November. Can't do you register. Parish (oirt wais ip seesion two days of the present week, but adjourned until Monday next. The pecans are nearly ready for the harvest.

Little boys, get your sticks, and have them heavy at the butt end. Wagons have been sent from this parish recently, to obtain supplies, to Camden, Hope City, and The Parish Democratic Executive Committee will meet next Tuesday at Keller's Hall In this city, for the transaction of important business. The Police Jury held a special meeting the past weekand appointed commissioners of election. The officieal proceedings will be found in this week's paper. We are Informed that Dr.

Hamilton of Delta reports seventy cases of yellow fever at that place. We had thought that there were hardly so many people left in the town. The Democrats of Caddo parish have done a graceful thing in nominating Maj. J. C.

Moneure for the legislature. The whole State will hear the announcement with genuine pleasure. Two years ago, on the second of this month, there was a frost and a freeze; but nothing of the kind has occurred. up to date this year. The weather is' cloudy and rainy.

Some persons prediet a frost the change of the moon." The withdrawal of the Parish pickets at the parish line on the railroad, at Bayou necessitated the plaeing of a quarantine guard there by the city. The point is now closely guarded by a special guard sent out by Monroe, who will remain on duty until the quarantine Is finally raised. Major Green and Mayor Endom went out to Rayville yesterday with a locomotive and baggage car, having a supply. of ice for the yellow fever sufferers at Delhi. Two.or three new cases are reported at that point-Mr.

Geo. Slattery and Mr. Feenan two of those recently taken. We hope the worst is over, however, and that the people of Delhi will very soon have only the sad remembrances of the scourge to contend with. Capt.

E. B. Cryer carried the lightdraught steamer Acme down the river nearly a month ago to receive a lot of groceries shipped from St. Louis for merchants in Trenton and Monroe. The goods were re-shipped at the mouth of Old river, and the Aeme is now lying at the quarantine station at thie lower limits of the parish awaiting the.

expiration of the time during which she isquaranitined. Her freight consists of a layqge quantity of bacon, rice, She will be up in five or six dlays. is still free of yellow fever; nor have we heard of a wellestablished case of the disease, as yet, nearer than Delhi, 37 miles distant. The strictest quarantine regulations continue to be enforced, however, and ingress is denied to all who are unable to show they are not from infected districts. This is eminently proper and wise.

It is too late, now, to relax oar vigilance. In a few hope, this may be done safely, and the worthy sentinels of our city's health released from their duties. Deaemeratie xemisees col. John Youpg, wearie ith travel and hosoe from.labor, his appointment at the Court House labi Tuesday night. Judge R.W.'Riehardson presided.

A full house greeted and did him honor. A man of fine physique, graceful carriage and happy utterance, he fixed attention in rising and kept it for two hours in an elaborate and exhaustive summation of the Issues dividing the country, and of the purposes and hopes of all contendiag parties in the future legislation of Congress. The fnances wore theaoughly dieearssed, the intricacles of to satema luoidly examined and its bmrdmesoam tendencies exp d. The levees 'and their relbdlngy: by the general govet et wll be a se tck an otlest and aima of his service as any Republican could promise or expect. The Paeific Railroad will have in him a friend ebamplon, and his best efforts will be used to secure for it national aid And encouragement.

Col. Young is a Democrat squarely on the platform, and the old banner ln his hands. -He Is tally alive to the im.portance of securing the next House Representatives, and is determined to give the enemy nd quarter, avoid no exertion and seek no rest during the of the canvass, in the belief that if energy and work will call the voter to his duty I At in le ft iUf or Gen. King, after addressing the people of this parish awd of Union last. week, was called away to the parishes on the Miselsissippi.

He spoke at Waterproof on the 5th, at Kirk's Ferry and Sicily Island on the day following. A dispatch Bagyvilla. received yelite lnlrafas-us mhat addressed the people of that parish Wednesday, and yesterday he was to have spoken at Bastrop. It will be seen that our candidates for Congress are not idle. Mr.

Bennett takes for the subject of his graver this week, the physiognomy of the Edito of the TP Mr. Bennett has not before undertaken the reproduction on wood of the human features. How far he, or Mr. Mealy, the photographer, has missed the counterfeit presentment of the TaLEb APr's chief, we shall not undertake ay, any more than they have a very good piltare from a very poor. subject.

'We should be pleased to present to the readers of the TmEZeaAPR, engravings of any of our leading ci etiens who will call 19i the aid of Messrs. Bennett and Mealy. We copy with sorrow inexpresseble, from the Caiiborne Guardian, the announcement of the death of Mr. A. MeCranie, of Homer.

He and the writer were boys together, and all the tender recollections of boyhood are recalled by the announcement of his death. Of other men, dead, we might, say something; of this man notblng, at present, but we give the poor tribute of silence and tears, and we believe that no tribute we could offer to his memory would gratify him he now living. His wife and child much as they have reason to urn, are not, we- hope, more sorrow tricken than are we. As will be seen by an vertisement in this week's paper, dge Ludeling proposes to address the of this parish at Mon 19th, and at uo on the 18th. Judge Ludeling addressed the people of Concordia on the 24th.

Over there he devoted his remarks to a review of the decision of the U. S. Supremo Court in the railroad suit, and to a criticism of Gon. King's claims to citizenship in Louisiana. What he will talk to the people of Ouachita about is something more than we can well imagine.

Insure your cotton, gin-houses, machinery, with Sholars ly, agts. Mr. Aleek Mitchell will receive orders fo millstones from any of the plaster or milles in the parish. Mr. Mitchell is a reliable gentleman and a faithful mechanlic.

Mr. A. Myatt informs us that Mr. Mitchell has done a splendid job on his mill, and he does not hesitate to give Mr. Mitchell an unreserved endorsement.

kr. 8helton, registrar of voters, supplies us with the number of voters registered in this parish up to noon yesterday, as follows: 62 .........1106 ...............172 Just recelved by Sholars thousand pounds bacon, sugar, coffee, rice, lard, which will he sold as low as the coast will admit. 1 si 1: i wL cam.
