married Richard Stark After retiring from the US Navy they returned to Fresno for good in 1973 Gerry was a wonderful homemaker She devoted her life to loving and caring for her family Her favorite pastimes were home decorating gardening hosting family events and holidays and especially spoiling all of her kids She is survived by her husband of 39 years Dick Stark her daughter Gail Gale and her husband James of Sanger step-son Bob Stark and his wife Julie of Thousand Oaks her nephew Ron Nicholson of San Francisco seven grandchildren and their spouses 11 great-grandchildren a grand-niece and two year contract with a hospital in Cincinnati Ohio She was married to Ricardo Asuncion one of the first Filipino residents of Reedley She worked at the Sierra Kings Hospital and Kingsview Hospital for several years While as a full-time nurse she became involved with the Filipino residents of Reedley and shortly thereafter was elected as the first President of the Filipino Association of Reedley and neighboring towns She was re-elected several times She and her husband were very active not only in the Filipino Association but also with many activities within the entire community Herfila and Acabe Shekoyan he came to the United States with his Barents in 1907 and was a felong resident of Fresno Most of his paternal and maternal families were massacred during the 1915 Genocide He was a retired farmer and accountant Elish attended Emerson Elementary School Longfellow Junior High School and from Fresno High chool in 1923 After high school he attended Four C's Commercial College In Fresno and Golden Gate College in San Francisco studying accounting He was an avid swimmer diver and water polo player competing in his youth on the original Fresno Dolphins swim team and the Los Angeles Athletic Club water polo team In 1927 he competed in the annual Golden Gate Swim from Sausalito to the San Francisco Presidio winning a trophy For many years until nearly 90 he swam almost daily at the Fig Garden Swim Racquet Club at the same location where he had competed for the Fresno Dolphins 70 years earlier On June 10 1939 he married Zephyr Gagosian They were blessed with three children James Shekoyan Thomas Shekoyan and Mary Esther Shekoyan and three grandsons Mark Matthew and Michael Shekoyan His love and support of his family was his priority and he was thankful to God for his happiness He was always interested in and proud of his children's and grandsons' achievements Ha will always be remembered for hie devotion to his family his gentlemanly manner ana the constant sparkle In his eyes Elish was a very active person who was always helping others As a child he served as an altar bov at the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church As a young man he was active in Boy Scouting serving as a Cub Scout Master and institutional representative He possessed a beautiful tenor voice and sang at many weddings and other functions including the dedication of the Post Office Building at Tulare Streets He was a member of the Pilgrim Armenian Congregational Church and served as a deacon He was a past president of the Triple Fraternity and the Bitlis Club He was also a member of the Elks Lodge Fig Garden Homeowners Association and the Fig Garden Swim Racquet Club He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Zephyr son James and wife Linda and son Thomas
