Wrestlers pinned by cops A-12 Santa Cruz Sentinel Friday, Feb. 14, 1986 Dole says bases in Philippines are in danger I I 1 i A it at least 86 people have died in elec-tion violence. President Ferdinand E. Marcos was leading challenger Corazon Aquino on Thursday in the official vote tally controlled by his party. Dole said even if a presidential winner is selected, the election turmoil could continue to cause political unrest.

"Who knows what will take off in the Philippines? We hope they resolve their differences," Dole said. "It just seems to me we should be prepared in any event." He added that there was no current threat to U.S. military personnel in the region, and that both the United States and the Philippines have mutual interests in keeping the bases there. The U.S. pays the Philippine government millions of dollars for rent on the bases.

Dole said. Dole was in California to raise money for his re-election bid and also review the state for a possible Republican takeover in the Senate in this November's election. LOS ANGELES (AP) Senate Majority Leader Robert Dole says continued political unrest in the Philippines could lead to the reloca-. tion of major U.S. military installations in that island nation.

Dole, told a news con-." ference Thursday he will introduce legislation next week directing the Department of Defense to conduct a 'f feasibility study on relocating both Subic Bay Naval Base and Clark Air Base to other areas of the Pacific. "As the president said the other night, we must be ready for any contingency," Dole said. "It is crucial for us to protect our military interests in that region. Whatever developments occur in the Philippines, we will be protected." He said government officials are already scouting new sites for the bases, but would not name the locations being considered. The presidential elections currently being conducted in the Philippines have been tainted by many charges of widespread fraud and voter in- timidation, and the government said AP Laser photo Sen.

Robert Dole warned U.S. may have to move military bases. He said last month's indictment of $100,000 to drop out of the GOP Rep. "For the last 200 yards, he gets right down on them and runs them full speed toward the net," Bleich added. The final rush forces the sheep to entangle themselves without giving them time to notice the net and turn back. The sheep are then bound, blindfolded and flown to a nearby staging area where they are checked by veterinarians and given a collar equipped with a radio transmitter and ear tags. They then will be loaded into trucks for a ride to snowy Lee Vining Canyon between Mono Lake and Yosemite.

"The Sierra Club, along with a lot of other groups, thinks this is one of the greatest things to happen in a long time," said Mike Prather, a local Sierra Club member. "It's just a part of man's stewardship of the Earth," he saM. "We're the top of the line. It's part of pur responsibility to preserve life." AP Laserphoto By McClatchy Newt Service FRESNO Wrestling fans probably would have lined up to pay an extra couple of bucks to catch three of their professional mat stars in action here during an unscheduled three-ring main event outside the ropes early Thursday.

The highlight of the show, according to Fresno police, was when "Cowboy Bob" Orton, all 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 252 pounds of him, stood nude on the fifth floor balcony outside his room at the Holiday Inn Centre Plaza, challenged officers to a fight and did not take a three-count until he was zapped twice with a stun gun. No punches were thrown, and police said Orton, 35, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and then taken to Valley Medical Center, where he was treated for the effects of the stun gun. "He was released from custody a couple hours later, after he sobered up," said detective Danny Martin. Martin said officers had gone to the Centre Plaza to question Orton and two other professional wrestlers, "Rowdy Roddy" Piper and Dan "The Magnificant" Muraco, in connection with a disturbance at the Old Fresno Hofbrau before 2 a.m. According to police, Nash Lara, 35, of Fresno, a patron at the Old Fresno, was seated at the bar when a man, later identified as Piper, picked him up off a stool and slammed him to the floor.

Lara complained of back pain and was examined at the scene by paramedics and then taken to VMC, where was treated and released about five hours later. Chris Caldwell, the bartender, said the three wrestlers had entered the bar about 10 minutes before closing time and that Piper and Orton started "mouthing off" after he refused to serve them any drinks. "All of a sudden, the guy put his arms around Nash, pulled him off the stool and threw him down," said Caldwell. Lara is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 140 pounds. Police said witnesses followed the wrestlers outside, saw them get into a car and obtained a description and license number of the vehicle.

About 45 minutes later, police said, the car was found abandoned in the middle of the Southern Pacific railroad tracks in Chinatown. Police said about a half-dozen officers were waiting inside the hotel lobby when Piper and Muraco walked in about 3 a.m. 1970 El Camino Real (B ISAM ID) PERMM of our SANTA CRUZ STORE IPHiEOllDEIW' DDAV A1E 14 Styles of Mattresses to Choose from -ALL ON SALE! The animals gained protection in 1883 from the state Legislature to prohibit hunting but otherwise leaving the sheep to survive on their own. The bighorn sheep were declared extinct in Yosemite in 1914 under the passive policy. "It's not that the animals can't coexist with man.

It's that the animals were given absolutely no consideration," Bleich said. Water supplies and forage that the sheep depended on were lost. The program to revitalize bighorn sheep and expand their range is proof that "man can correct his past misdeeds," he said. The Foundation for North American Wild Sheep based in Cody, is one of several groups that contributed money for the project. "People love to see sheep.

They love to photograph them, and they're just wonderful animals," said spokesman Ted Bryant. "It's a very special animal." The state Fish and Game Department wants to re-establish a bighorn sheep herd that would winter near Mono Lake and summer in the high country of Yosemite National Park on the east slope of the Sierra Nevada. The new herd will be drawn from Mount Baxter 40 miles south of Bishop where 215 bighorns maintain a relatively stable herd, explained project leader Vern Bleich, a state wildlife biologist. He has been on seven relocation drives since July 1983.

The transfer should begin at daybreak Wednesday, weather permitting. A helicopter carrying spotters will isolate sheep from the herd and move them toward one of two nets that are six-feet tall and several hundred feet long. "It's a very slow process," Bleich in a telephone interview. The helicopter pilot "doesn't push the animals or make them run," but Sawing Machine.
