Tfiurs., Fr/., Serf., July 28-29-30 Algona Mayor In Ceremony At Store Opening At 9:00 A.M. Thursday, July !8. lo signal the formal opening of the new R. M. Harrison company store in Algona, Mayor Linda Clapsaddlo will formally cut the ribbons a! the store entrances. This event will begin the day's activities in the new store, and a large crowd is expected to be on hand to witness the ceremony. It is anticipated that a prominent Harrison company official will speak at the ceremony, as will the Mayor. Work has been going on for several months in erection of the new store, and for the past weeks a special crew has been engaged in unpacking and arranging new merchandise. Numerous merchandising officials are expected to be present at the formal opening of the store in Algona, and preparations are being made to receive and handle B vast crowd of shoppers from the north Iowa territory. Music To Entertain Crowd Before Opening To make the moments immediately preceding the 9:00 opening of the store Thursday morning B little more pleasurable for wail- Ing customers, special loudspeakers will carry favorite tunes into the street in front of the new Harrison store. The front doors will be opened on the dot of 9:00 A.M. HERE'S THE "SCENE OF ACTION" THIS COMING WEEK-END The above photograph depicts the new modern, double-front 5c-S1.00 store of the R. M. Harrison Co. in Algona, which will be opened for the first time at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday, Ju,ly 28. The store, largest in the Harrison group which has other stores at Hampton, Waverly, Eldora. Indianola, Winter*et, Greene, Forest City, Cresco and Mount Pleasant, is also one of the largest of its kind in all of Iowa. It is completely and refreshingly modern in design, with the latest lighting and the newest decorative scheme. Walls are a soft pastel yellow, fixtures are all of blonde birch woods, and the floor is asphalt tile in a modern light green pattern. The store, which was formerly housed in one-front quarters next door, has installed a stock of merchandise which is several times larger than that heretofore carried. The Harrison company was founded in 1927 by R. M. Harrison, with headquarters in Hamp- lonTand has expanded to include ten stores, all of them in Iowa. New Departments Added in Store Wilh a vastly enlarged overall Block being installed in the new Harrison store as compared to the old slore, which has operated in Algona for the past six years, announcement has been made of the addition of several new departments, as follows: Children's Every-day Dress and Sport Clothes, for sizes 7 lo 14. Ladies Style Goods in sportswear, dresses and seasonal merchandise of a style nature. New Enlarged Pel Department. New Enlarged Candy Department, with latest type candy cases and displays. With respect lo the last department mentioned, there will be plenty of ways thai a "sweet tooth" can be satisfied with special values at the Grand Opening. It's A Momentous Day for Charles Hinken, Manager Enlarged Sales Staff for Grand Opening One Of Biggest Variety Stores In Iowa Will Open It is expected that the biggest attendance for the opening of any new store in north Iowa will be recorded on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, when a brand-new 5c to SI variety store will be opened in Algona by the R. M. Harrison Co. The doors will be thrown open for the first time at 9:00 A.M. Thursday, July 7.8 for the three-day Grand Opening. For this important shopping occasion, the new Harrison Store in Algona is putting out this special bargain "newspaper", which tells in detail of the store's Grand Opening, and describes the many top-flight merchandise specials arranged for the three days. Thousands of copies of this six-page section are being sent to homes in the north Iowa trade area, so that all customers may select and buy the Grand Opening values. The Harrison store, located on State street in Algona, is brand- new from top lo bottom, and is one of the largest of its kind in all Iowa. It'measures 44 x 132 feel overall, and combines a vast selling floor with stockrooms and office. This is the largest unit in lha R. M. Harrison organization of stores in Iowa, and is entirely self- serve with two spacious check-out counters. Completely Air-Conditioned The new Harrison store is air-conditioned throughout its entira area by special air-conditioners, which maintains the inside temperature at a pleasant coolness no matter what the outside reading is. Two large double entrances lead into the store. New Trend in Counters One of the most sensational things that will greet visitors to the new Harrison store are the merchandise fixtures, each a full 54 feel in length, and exhibiting the new trend of lower, easier-to- shop shelves. These are designed of blond birch woods. 5 Spacious Shopping Aisles Customers to the new store will experience a new freedom in shopping convenience, in the wider and longer aisles down which they may browse and shop. These aisles extend the full length of the store, and are lined with literally thousands and thousands of merchandise ilems. Interviewed about the Grand Opening celebration of the new Harrison 5c - SI store, Mr Hinken said: "It is a genuine thrill to announce to the public that our new store will open Thursday, after the many weeks and months that have gone into its preparation. Aside from the countless hours of work it look, it has been a thrill lo see this store take shape, and lo see Ihe vast amount of merchandise ihal will be slock- ed in it." "We will be completely ready next Thursday morning to greet our many friends and customers from many miles around, and I and an enlarged store staff will do our utmost to be good hosts. We look forward to a 'big time' in our new slore this week-end." Although for the Ihree grand opening days of the new Harrison store in Algona, there will be many extra salespeople on hand to serve customers, the attractive girls pictured above will constitute the regular selling staff.
