site for the 18-year-old competition and quite a field of youngsters will be on hand A total of 58 boys and 24 girls will begin arriving Sunday for warm-up rounds before competition opens Monday Kingsport sensation Margie Brown and Johnson City's Jan Maxey will head the list of local hopefuls In the girls' action and both have the best shot at winning Brown just won the high school state championship crown in Nashville wit a 6-0 6-2 victory over Maxey and the Tri-City pair has to be considered among the favorites Brown ho headed Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett's team is top-seeded while Maxey who hails from University High is seeded second Brown drew a bye in the first round and will meet Memphis' Robin Ferguson in Tuesday's quarterfinals Maxey will tangle with Memphis' Martha Wittichen at 9 a Monday Anne Pope who teamed up with Brown to take the state doubles title is also in the field and will take on Michelle Davis of Cleveland in opening round Jefferson Jean Love is the only other local participant and she'll meet Pattie Beers in opening round play Bobby Rogers is ranked the highest of any local competition Rogers is ranked seventh in the boys' state 16-year-old division and meet John Greer in Monday's action Jamie Miller the 13th-ranked 16-year-old opens his bid for the title against Brentwood Academy's John Kincaid Norm White who hails from Johnson City faces Murfreesboro's Greg Cantrall Monday White is ranked 14th among the state's 16 elite Bristol has two players in the action in Bill Hill and Joe Cross Hill takes on Jim Walker of Crossville in the Buford of Memphis Buford who is ninth-ranked among the 18-year-olds will meet Crossville Barry Lewis in second-round action Monday Nashville's David Templeton is seeded second in the tournament
