Goben, 304 W. Lincoln, is a member of the society board and vice-president of the Illinois Federation of Stamp Clubs. Choral concert tonight More than 100 Illinois Wesleyan University students and faculty will present the annual School of Music Christmas Choral Concert in Westbook Auditorium of Pressor Hall at 8:15 tonight. The program will be open free to the public. The audience will be Invited to join the students In singing several of the popular carols of the season such as "The First Nowell," "God Rest You Merry Gentlemen," "Joy to the World," "Adeste Fidefcs," and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." Musical groups which will appear are the Collegiate Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by David assistant professor of voice and choral music; the Women's Chorus, directed by Sammy Scifres, assistant professor of voice; the Singing Titans, directed by Donald Gray, instructor in voice; and the Brass Choir, directed by Thomas Streeter, instructor of brass instruments and theory.

Soloists will be Peggy Mammcn, Oregon; Clarence Semmes, Lafayette, and Christine Anderson, Naper-ville. Instrumentalists will be David Gehrenbeck, assistant professor of organ and sacred music; Margaret Wilson, Table Grove, piano; Robert Small, Blue Island, violin; and Daniell Huff, Fairfield, Iowa, and Scott McCormick, Mount Carroll, percussion. Kemp guest pianist Benny B. Kemp, assistant professor of music at Illinois Stale University, will appear as guest piano soloist with the Rend Lake Community Symphony Orchestra in Mount Vernon Monday. The orchestra personnel includes a number of music faculty members from Rend Lake College and Southern Illinois University.

While in Mount Vernon for the orchestra performance, Mr. Kemp will conduct a piano workshop for students at Rend Lake College. Sortie know him as Hunter Stow its. Others know him as Rukl. Still others will remember him as a fellow who ed the piano at Rloomington Countrr Club.

He was a student of C. Louis Stein-burg's at ISU, a close friend of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Abels of 503 E. Emerson and is remembered as a person with much natural talent, not only for painting, but for writing, music and photography.

The Shepherd Gallery featuring his work is one of the oldest on Madison Avenue, established in late 18th or early 19th Century. The Madrigal Brass Choir playing fanfares, a Court Jester and Pages carrying the Boar's Head and Wassail Bowl all add to the festive occasion. Most, but not all of the singr rs are majoring in music at Illinois State. They are directed by Dr. John W. Ferreli, professor in the department of music.

1 1 i church in The fifth annual Christmas Concert by Illinois State University's Treble Choir will be presented at 8:15 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church 1617 E. Emerson. The recital Is designed to present the choir in the setting of St.

John's Church to best acoustical advantage, Dr. Donald J. Armstrong, ISU choral director explains. One portion of the program will be performed from the rear elevated choir loft, and other selections will be sung from the altar area to afford the listener two different choral perspectives. The Christmas Choral Recital is traditionally centered around one major choral work.

The central work for the 1971 performance is "Cantares de Pas-cua" (Songs of Christmas), by Domingo Santa Cruz, contemporary Chilean composer. Percussion groups in joint concert The Illinois State University department of music will present two percussion groups in a joint concert at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Recital Hall of Centennial Building East. The performing groups are the Contemporary Percussion Quintet and the Repertory Percussion Ensemble. It will be the first public appearance of the Repertory Ensemble, a group comprised primarily of freshmen students.

Roger R. Faulmann, a member of the music faculty, is the conductor. Ensemble numbers to open the concert include "Symphony No. 1," by Anthony Cirone, and "Ocotber Mountain," by Alan Hovhaness. The second portion of the program will feature the Quintet in the performance of "Triptych," by Anthony Cirone; "Canticle No.

1," by Lou Harrison; and an arrangement of "Greensleeves," by Thomas L. Davis. Pantograph Photo) Decoupage workshop set for Clinton CLINTON iPNSi For the first time a decoupage workshop will be held at the Fine Arts Center of Clinton beginning the week of Feb. 14.

The workshop will be taught by Mrs. Eugenia Lynch, Mount Pulaski. Decoupage is the art of cutting out paper designs which are transferred to boxes, trays, furniture, handbags, etc. Depending upon the student's skill and practice, decoupage can be a successful and satisfying art form. The classes will be held Monday evening, Feb.

II, or Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 15. Tuition will be $18 for six classes and a minimum of eight students is required in earn class. Students will be responsible for their own materials which may be purchased from Mrs. Lynch.

The University of Illinois group, directed by Roman Tymchyshyn, is returning for the second year to the Peoria MATS series, having presented the play "Aesop's Fallibles" during the 70-71 season. Admission is by season ticket or by single admission tickets that may be purchased at the door. The Sunday 1 tn. performance is sold out to season ticket holders, but single admission is available for all the other performances, with most, seals available at the Saturday performances.
