Powell Sr. PIEDMONT Gene Keller Powell 66. of 825 Reedy Fork Road, husband of Virginia Stowe Powell, died April 20. 200O. at HJlcrest Hospital.

Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Jasper Earl and Minnie Holmes Powell. He retired from Metromont Material Corp. and as a volunteer for Meals On Wheels and Loaves Fishes. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 425 AFM and as of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his ife; three daughters.

Donna P. Duvall and Susan P. Burden, both of Piedmont and Kelly P. Glanton of Greenwood; a son. Gene K.

Powell Jr. of Piedmont; five sisters, Angelle P. Jones of Piedmont, Edith P. Caughman and Nita P. Bentley, both of Mauldin, Gladys P.

Nix of Saluda and Bonnie Tucker of Delaware; a brother, Elliott Powell of Johnson; and eight grandchildren. Services will be at 3:30 today at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, Greenville. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from today at the funeral home. The family is at the home.

(AP) A teen-age couple making a Good Friday pilgrimage to a church that is said to contain healing dirt were found shot to death along one of the most popular routes for the annual trek to the Roman Catholic shrine. "I can't recall there being an incident like this" during the annual journey, said state police CapL Carlos Maldonado. The first victim, 17-year-old Richard Martinez of Alcalde, was found lying on a highway before daybreak about 30 miles north of Santa Fe.

The second victim was his girlfriend, Karen Castanon of Arroyo Seco, believed to also be 17. Her body was found several miles away from Martinez's body. Both were students at Los Alamos High School.
