Pantagraph B-7 Bloomtngton-Normal, WWW WWW WwWWWTWWWW AGRICULTURAL I AGRICULTURAL Nov. 24, 1972 EMPLOYMENT at bridge I Mon. Thru FriTl I Want Ad Dept. I I Opens at I I 8:30 A.M. I I Closes at 7 P.M.

1 Sat. at 6 P.M. I I Open Sun. 5 to 7 P.M. I 1 Phono 829-9411 I I Ask for Classified South let the heart lead come around to his hand and promptly tried and lost the diamond finesse.

Kast led back a heart to his partner. West took his ace and thought for awhile. It was obvious to West that South still held the high heart. West could see that South was going to be able to collect four diamond tricks and if South happened to hold tho queen of clubs he would make the rest of the tricks. In duplicate play, West might well have taken his ace of spades and held South to one overtrick, but this was rubber bridge.

West led a heart In the hope of beating three no-trump in case his partner held the club queen. South won and cashed the rest of the tricks. (NiwsiAin fNTfiriuc amm The bidding has been: Weil North Kast South 1 A Pass 1 Pass 2 Pass 3 Pass 3 A Pass 3 N.T. Pass 4 Pass How lo win NOIITII (D) 21 VK2 AKJ93 sfe AK J84 YVKST EAST AA82 Q10 64. Puss Pans Puss Opening lead 5 ISy Oswald James Jacoby It doesn't require any great bidding skill to get to three no-trump with the North-South cards. The bidding in the box shows the simple, straightforward way to get there. VVith two five-card suits, North opens with the higher ranking one. You don't go out of your way to reverse, to show strength. A reverse bid shows strength and when you reverse with touching suits like diamonds and clubs it indicates that the club suit is longer.

North's hand is strong enough for a forcing jump bid in his second suit and South rebids to three no-trump. South might have given a preference to three diamonds but the last thing South wanted was to get past the three no-trump level. i CERTIFICATE of 5 7c Inf ak ra rr. iiiioivat mailed en.
