124 of these men were found to be physically unfit for service, a percentage of 21. Of the 443 Jtn who passel the physical examinations, approximately 300 have filed claims for exemption, or 66. The work of passing upon these applications for exemption is not completed, but of the 24 so far pawed upon, 203 have been granted and 43 denied, or a percentage of the physically fit of 43' Ninety two men have been certified to the District Board by the Board at Halifax and approximately 100 more will be certified to-day. Calls will be issued to-day or to-morrow summoning between five and hunJred additional men to Halifax for examination, this'being the number estimated to complete the first Quota of 331 inen and the necessary ten per cent reserve. Ralph Walker, of Newport News, is spending a few days here this week with friends. Mr. H. C. Spiers, of Weldon, most acceptably filled the pulpit of Rev.

E. C. Few at the Roa- ncke Rapids Methodist Church on last Sunday morning. A large congregation heard the sermon, which was prefaced by a short appreciation by Mr. Spiers of the progress in commercial, civic and religious matters made by this community, The sermon was an eloquent one and attracted many favorable comments.
