TIm Freaira Bre Fri May 19 1978 Film watch Coming Home gutsy Tycoon familiar A film with lush locales beautiful people and a very familiar storyline There is this Greek shipping tycoon named Theo Tomasis who is first attracted to the beautiful young wife of a handsome American senator when they meet at a party The senator becomes president is later assassinated and against the advice of her family the widow returns to Greece and the life the tycoon can give her embittered young man who at first believes she Is only doing this work as some kind of "kick" Voight proves again what a capable actor he is in this taxing role filled with emotional intensity We see him grow out of his bitterness into a person better able to understand himself and those around him and coping with his handicap He is the more likeable of the two leading showing a warmth and gentle-in his scenes with Ms Fonda As the pro-military career Martne Dem gives a strong portrayal turning from a gung-ho go to war type to a man bewildered by what he has seen and his failure to be a hero His mental anguish is as debilitating as physical problems and he is ultimately less able to deal with it Standing out among the many supporting roles some of which are only a few lines are Edward Albert as handsome sensual son trying to be like his father and headed toward tragedy Raf Vallone as the brother Quinn trust and James Franciscus as the young Kennedy-like president Anthony Quinn portrays Tomasis in the beginning the film switches a kind of rich Zorba the back and forth from Greece to the US trying to give a view of Tomasis and Liz in their separate lives Characters come and go a few never heard from again and nothing is dwelt on more than five minutes (so it seems) Greek one who has risen from to billionaire status He is in a rough sort of way and the most sympathetic of the two leads As Liz Cassidy Jacqueline Bisset A strong gutsy film boasting characters so real you cry and laugh and feel with them during the little more than two hours that you know them It also is an indictment against war the physical and mental handicaps which so often scar the men who do the fighting The screenplay by Waldo Salt and Robert Janes is set on the home front (San Diego to be exact) and focuses on the relationship between Sally Hyde (Jane Fonda) and her husband Marne Captain Bob Hyde (Bruce Dem) and a paraplegic veteran Luke Martin (Jon Voight) All go through changes as a result of the war and each other Ms Fonda turns in another first-rate performance as Sally beginning as the good militaiy wife who Mows her wishes Just as he follows the orders of his superior officers When he leaves for war she learns to exist on her own and finds herself more indepenent and with a different outlook To fill her time she volunteers for work at the base hospital where she sees the waste of war in the presence of the physically and mentally handicapped veterans Among them is her high school classmate Luke an EE NOW EXCLUSIVE GATES OPEN 7:30 PM show at dusk!
