State Board of Registered Nursing is investigating the Fresno State University Nursing Department amidst charges that two nursing faculty members are incompetent FSU officials announced foe review is under way at a news conference yesterday but refused to reveal the names of foe faculty members being investigated because it is a personnel matter Academic Vice President Louis Volpp said the university will do everything in its power to see that the department does not lose its accreditation over the issue Nursing faculty members teach students in clinical settings such as hospitals and health departments The problem surfaced when local hospitals which foe university would not identify charged that the two faculty members were incompetent The hospitals registered a complaint with the Board of Registered Nursing in January There are 22 nursing faculty members who teach the 300 students in the program according to department Acting Chairperson Eleanore Greene Mrs Greene said every student who graduates from the program gets a job Volpp said foe department's problem is only because of the complaints against the two faculty members but he added that the Board of Registered Nursing will review the entire program at the request' Volpp said the board's review of foe program should be completed this spring There were indications of problems in the Nursing Department two years ago when two nursing-education consultants said in a report to the faculty that there were personnel problems in the department according to a chronology of events issued by the university A Division of Health Professions Advisory Council was established during the 1975-76 school year and foe council appointed a nursing subcommittee to address the problems contained in the report The hospitals indicated last fall that the faculty members did not meet their professional standards and foe Boar of Registered Nursing was so advised last month according to foe university A consultant
