Repair Work on 2 Bridges To Disrupt Subway Service The Associated Press Repair work on the Williamsburg and Manhattan Bridges will disrupt subway train service this month, the Transit Authority announced yesterday. The Williamsburg Bridge work, which will be the first phase of a major track rehabilitation, will be done only on weekends, affecting service on the and lines during the first three weekends of March. Work being done on the Manhattan Bridge by the State Department of Transportation will disrupt daily service on the and lines continuously from March 10 to March 25, the TA said, and cause suspension of QB and RR (Chambers Street) rush-hour service until March 26. During the weekend work on the Williamsburg Bridge, all and trains to Manhattan will terminate at the Myrtle Avenue- Broadway station in Brooklyn, but a special shuttle will operate every 30 minutes TV New Newswriters rs The Associated Press Four hours before a midnight strike deadline, the Writers Guild voted last night to postpone a threatened walkout by 600 newswriters against CBS and ABC for three days, until 12:01 AM Monday. The union's executive council voted 21-0 to give the networks "one last chance" to come up with an accepiable settlement, according to Mona Mangan, associate executive director of the union.

is a better day for us, because the networks are going full steam. We want to strike when it has most impact," Mangan said. Jerome Lurie, a union attorney, said: "Nobody in this union wants to go out on strike, but the networks have given our members the choice between walking out or committing suicide." Talks were continuing between representatives of the union and the networks, with union jurisdiction apparently the biggest block to a settlement. ALPERT-Max. Beloved husband of the late Jane.

On the Manhattan Bridge, and trains will operate on the line in both directions. Separate and services will be operated between West Fourth Street and uptown points, and there will be no service to the Broadway-Lafayette and Grand Street stations. Passengers normally using those stations can use the line to Broadway-Lafayette and a shuttle train will take passengers between Broadway-Lafayette and Grand Street. The TA said the temporary changes during the Manhattan Bridge work are expected to add an average of 20 minutes to normal traveling time.

Postpone Strike Network demands included the right to hire unlimited temporary help for indefinite lengths of time without paying benefits and the right to use outside help to do the work of newswriters, researchers and graphic artists, said Susan Scheid, a Guild attorney. After the executive council vote, she said the networks "did modify their jurisdiction proposals, but in no significant Wages were not expected to be a problem. The networks were offering 6 per cent a year in a threeyear contract, while the union was asking for roughly 9 per cent annually, Guild officials said.
