COMBS, son of Rose Combs of McConnick, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia. During the nine weeks of training, soldiers study the Army mission and receive instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical fitness, basic first aid and Army history, tradition and core values.

They also receive special training in human relations. Combs is a 2002 graduate of Long Cane Academy in McCormick. AIR FORCE AIRMAN JOE L. GREENE, son of Joe Greene of Greenwood, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. The six-week program includes the study of the Air Force mission and organization and military customs and courtesies.

Recruits also receive instruction and practice in drill and ceremony marches, physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations. Airmen who complete basic training also earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Greene graduated from Emerald High School, Greenwood, in 2002.
