shelves Safeway spokesman Henry Flank said the 300 California and Arizona stores now buy cattle and have them slaughtered by meat packers The retail price of beef may be frozen at 72 cents a pound but Safeway said pasta products sales also are up considerably And he added that sales of fish are up 50 to 100 per cent while TV dinners and dry beans were up about 50 per cent Other chains reported the sales of hamburger supplements were also up Food industry officials also shy the trend will probably continue because price controls on beef are due to expire Sept 12 Meanwhile food chains are conference In Washington DC next month from 23 to three Although the council did not take an official vote it was a consensus that only three should attend the conference which would include a 4 Cents By Gerald Merrcli The cost of a half pint of milk will increase 4 cents 66 per cent for 55-000 students in the Fresno Unified School District next month in the wake of the federal government's abandonment of the milk subsidy program Pupils who attend the district's 78 schools will have to pay 10 cents for the milk which last year cost them 6 cents Additionally district officials today announced they will discontinue serving one-third of a quart of milk to junior high and high school students and limit them to a half pint In the Clovis schools system officials announced the price of milk will double from 5 cents for students and will increase from 10 cents to 15 cents a half pint for adults Anthony Trovato assistant business manager for the Fresno schools system said the cost of milk to the district last year was about 9 cents a half pint with the government pay ing 3 cents of that With the increase to 10 cents in the cost of milk to the district this year he said students
