situated we couldn't handle that many By Karl Kidder Directors of the 21st District Agricultural Association have voted unanimously to take a long hard look at the future of the Fresno District Fair particularly in light of an antidote for its growing pains At the suggestion of Scc-relary-Manager Ralph Hinds the board at its annual meeting this week agreed a master plan must be started as soon as possible to handle a projected 500000-plus patrons by 1980 or before Theodore Pretzer a rancher was re-elected president of the sponsoring group and Harry Baker was retained as vice president Hinds in his first year as manager recommended the hiring of an expert consultant to draw up a plan for orderly expansion of the fair ground Such a plan he said should thoroughly explore the ultimate withdrawal from state control and management of the annual fall festival Directors are appointed by the governor and the State Department of division of fairs and expositions controls budgets and from the concert were to be used to support a farm cooperative to be started by McAfee However the Fresno County Board of Supervisors refused to give a permit for the festival claiming there was no proper traffic access in the area and surrounding farm land might be damaged Since then Dr Robert Pritchard founder of the New York based non-profit association has denounced McAfee as an opportunist
