PROGRESS BULLETIN Pomona, Catitomfa Sunday, June 5, 1977 Obituaries James Darby James Darby of 330 W. Eighth Pomona, died Thursday afternoon in the Long Beach Veterans Hospital. Mr. Darby was bom Aug. 3, 1924 in Greensville, Ala.

He came to Pomona from Ohio in 1960. He served with the Army during World War II. Surviving are a son, Wayne of Pomona; two daughters, Kathryn Kennedy of Ventura and Karla of Pomona; and a grandson, James Lynn- zimia Kennedy of Ventura. Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 m. at Todd Memorial Chapel Pomona.

The Rev Elijah Massey will officiate. Burial will be in Pomona Cemetery Friends may call at the Pomona mortuary chapel Tuesday from noon to 9 pm. May 15, 1891 in Sprague, Wash He came to California in 1925 He lived in Elsinore for 40 years before moving to the Pomona area in 1976 from Corona. Surviving are his widow, Lena a daughter, Gloria A. Hoesche of Chino; two brothers and two sisters, all of Washington; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Todd Memorial Chapel Pomona. Burial will be in Elsinore Valley Cemetery, Elsinore. Mr Roe was bom May 9, 1906 in Humeston, Iowa. He arrived in Los Angeles in 1942 and lived in Pomona for the past 26 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Crusader Class of the church and also a member of the 35 Color Club. He is survived by his widow, Mickey; a son, Bill Roe of Montebello, a daughter, Donna Wilson of Santa Rosa; three brothers, Arthur and Luke, both of Humeston, and Ernest of Corydon, Iowa; two sisters, Vera Harris of Humeston, and Verla Garton of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services will be held today at 2 p.m.

Willard Long Willard A. Long of San Clemente died Thursday in San Clemente following a short illness. Mr. Long was born Dec. 2, 1912 in Pomona, and went all through school in Pomona His father, Willard A.

Long, was a former Pomona councilman. Mr. Long, a teacher, was teaching at the San Clemente Baptist Church at the time of his death. He previously had taught radio speed reading as a civilian for the Navy and during ceremonies in Hawaii had been presented the highest civilian award for his service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and earned the rating of sergeant.

He was a member of the San Clemente Elks Lodge and the Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Corrine; two sons, Thomas of San Clemente and William of San Diego; two daughters, Cathy Belomey of Los Angeles and Connie of San Clemente; four grandchildren; and two brothers. Sidney and Robert. both of San Diego County. Services will be held Mondav at 11 a at the San Clemente Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Pomona Cemetery. Ann Gelzer. wife of Karl Gelzer of 471 Chester Place, Pomona, died Thursday evening in Pomona Valley Community Hospital. Mrs. Gelzer was bom June 3.

1904 in Germany. She came to the U.S. from Germany in 1928 and lived in Pomona for the past 43 years. She worked for the Red Cross during World War II. She also worked for the election board for 25 years.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Gelzer is survived by a daughter, Margaret Ann Crowell of La Jolla; three grandchildren, John Peelle of Fresno, Michael Peelle of Santa Barbara and David Peelle of LaJolla. Services will be conducted Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona. Services will conclude in the chapel.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the A. County Heart Association, 2405 W. 8th Los Angeles 90057. Bessie Aldridge Bessie Mae Aldridge of 11277 Pipeline Pomona, died Thursday evening in a local convalescent hospital after a long illness. Mrs.

Aldridge was bom Aug. 3, 1897 in Floydada. Tex. She came to California in 1942 from Plainview, Tex. She had lived most of the time since in the Pomona area.

She was a member of the Phillips Street Church of God, Pomona. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lula Baker of Upland, Mrs. Frances Huffman of Pomona and Mrs. Vida Linnastruth of Chino; a son, Billy M.

of Romoland; three sisters, Mrs. Fleta Seal of Pomona, Mrs. Thelma Mosley of Auburn and Mrs. Allie Morris of Sacramento and 12 grandchildren. Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m.

at Todd Memorial Chapel Pomona. The Rev. George A. Starnes, pastor of the Phillips Street Church of God. will officiate.

Private burial will be in Pomona Cemetery. Friends may call at the Pomona mortuary chapel today from 2 to 9 p.m. Wilbur Johns Wilbur Johns of 527 San Pasquel Hemet, died Friday at the Loma Linda University Medical Center after a short illness. Mr. Johns was born April 9, 1909 in Grand Ridge, Fla.

He lived in Pomona 25 years before moving to Hemet two years ago. He was a retired meat cutter. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Pomona and Trinity Bible Chapel in Rowland Heights. Surviving are his widow, Dealsey a son, the Rev.
