THE NEWS East-39-A West-35-A No. East-41-A Central-35-A Hold Exhibit of Stitchery, Needlepoint An exhibit of creative dlepoint by Paul and stitchery by Herb Grade will continue through Monday at Barnsdall Arts and Crafts Center, 4800 Hollywood Los Angeles, the Los Angeles City Recreation and Parks Dept. reported. The unusual display may be viewed without charge on week days from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.; on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m.

C. Smith Passes Away in Peabody, Mass. Elizabeth Cisney Smith, MD passed away on Nov. 13 at Peabody, Mass. Dr.

Smith, who was 83 years of age, graduated from Women's Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1910 and practiced medicine in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Dakota and Maryland for over 40 years. Dr. Smith was a pioneer in the women's suffrage movement and was one of the founding members of the Business and Professional Women's Clubs. Survived by Four Children She is survived by four children: Edwin J. Smith of Shasta Lake, Mrs.

J. M. Stein of Arlington, Randall B. Smith of New York City; and Mrs. E.

M. Bouvier of 6958 Amestoy Van Nuys, Calif. Dr. Elizabeth Cisney Smith was born in 1882 on a remote farm near Blair's Mills, in Huntingdon County, Pa. She attended Dry Run Academy and Dickenson College, and then studied at the State Normal School at California, Pa.

At the latter school she met a fellow student, her husbandto-be, August Edwin Smith, from Dunbar, Pa. The young couple taught school for several years in Fayette County, before deciding to embark on medical careers. By working at part-time jobs, the Smiths worked their way through medical college in Philadelphia. Their first child, Edwin J. Smith, was born while they were medical students.

Practiced Medicine Together Upon graduation in 1911, the Drs. Smith practiced medicine for nine years at South Fork, Cambria County, in the heart of the bituminous coal mining country. In 1919, they moved to Warren, Ohio, where they continued to practice medicine together until the death of Dr. A. E.

Smith in 1934. After the death of her husband, Dr. Elizabeth Smith took graduate courses at Harvard University and University of Minnesota and engaged, in public health work until World War II. In coordination with federal and state Public Health officials she executed extensive child and maternal health programs in North Dakota, and Maryland. At the outbreak of war, Dr.

Smith accepted responsibility for the medical care of a large community of defense workers at Middle River, where she served as the sole general practitioner until 1946. when she retired from active Since her retirement, Dr. Smith has lived at Harrisburg. Van. Nuys, and Arlington, Mass.
