George W. Perkins, former first vice president of the New York Life Insurance company, and now a member of the firm of J. P. Morgan has sent to the New York Life bis personal check for $54,019.19 to reimburse the company for the Republican campaign contribution made from Its funds in 1904, In connection with which Mr. Perkins recently was made defendant on a charge of larceny.

Announcement of the restitution of the principal of $48. 600 and interest to date was mada by President Alexander E. Orr, of the New York Life, to whom Mr. Perkins, before leaving on a trip to the South, addressed a letter inclosing the check. President Orr also gave out the letter.

Howes, secretary of the Retail Merchants' Association of Pennsylvania, spoke for the bill and pointed out its advantages and suggested certain amendments which will make the proposed law more effective. The bill provides that any person earning more than $10 a week may have his salary garnisheed for debt to the extent of 10 pef cent, of his earnings. The subject has been referred to a sub-committee and the bill in an amended form will probably be re 35 thing you put into it.
