This morning Judge Ellsworth wss interviewed by a Tribune reporter and asked if he would verify the story of kissing the bride. His Honor remarked: "I decline to verify tbe statement. There is no truth in it whatever." Tbe Judge said that he enjoyed a joke as wtll as any one, but he thought that the matter had been carried too far when a palpable lie had been published in the newspapers, HELPING HIS FRIENDS. Charles Saunders, a young man who helped himself to a merchant's horse and wagon at San Leandro, is on trial lo-uay before Judge Ellsworth on a charge of grand larceny.

Two of Saunders's friends had been rreted and locked np in the City Prison, and when he vi-ited thm he intormed them that he would era alor au attorney to look after their defense. Then i Saunders visited Attorney Brearty and that gentleman demanded his fee in advance. The young man said be would return with the fee in a day or so, and the next thing Brearty heard was that Saunders had stolen a horse and wagon and was in jsil.

Tne prisoner is accused of stealing the horse and wagon at San Leandro. and selling the rig at Centerville. He went to San Jose and. in his efforts to bave a glorious time, he wound up ia the Citv Prison. here he confessed taking the horse and wagon, but exolainedf that he wanted simply to take a ride.
