Lewis -Knox, an old and respectel citizen of San Leandro, died at his residence, a mile east of that place, on Thursday morning, the 7th inst. Another spire on the south will rise to a height of eighty feet. The ceiling of the auditorium is in the shape of a high dome, nnlike anything on this coast. The ceiling of the Sunday school, to tbe rear, is similarly dome shaped. The ground plan covers 141x70 feet. The auditorium is G0x60 feet with a slight fall toward the The seating capacity will be about '500.

Back of the auditorium will be a ladies' parlor and kitchen, and back of these will be the Sunday school room. This chapel will be 60xf8J feet, and will be one large room, surrounded by fourteen classrooms. These classrooms may be separated from each other, or they may be thrown intoonoi There will be a gallery around this room, tbat may aviso be divided into classrooms, if necessary. Shortly after he attained his majority, in 1862, he came to California, worked in the mines for a while; he then went to cattle and about a year after bis arrival went near to ban Jose and engaged in farming; he remained in California for rive years, and then returned to his old home there he married, and in July, 1857 thirty years ago came to California for the second time; he went to farming near llaywards, and in 1860 purchased the place on which he has' resided ever since. No man was possessed of more warm friends than Mr. Knox he had a large and extensive acquaintanceship, and no man was ever heard to speak of him cither than in terms of praise for honesty; industry, and manliness. Although no communicant of any church he took a great interest in religious affairs, and was a hearty supporter of the Presbyterian Church of San Leandro. He was what is termed a good man.
