Alexander began his career in his early teens when he sang and danced on the vaudeville circuit. By his late teens, he was producing musical arrangements for several big bands. Alexander's first feature film arrangement was for the 1937 movie "Shall We Dance." (AP) -Basil Duke Henning, Yale University's Colgate professor emeritus of history, died Monday after a long illness. He was 79. Hennning, a specialist in English history, was a member of the Yale faculty from 1935 until his retirement in 1978. He was master of Saybrook College, one of Yale's 12 undergraduate residential colleges, from 1946 to 1975, the longest tenure of any master in the Yale residential college system. Argentine tourist bus crash kills 18 RIO OE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) An Argentine tourist bus flipped over and crashed on a highway in southern Brazil early Tuesday, killing 18 passengers, police said. Another 15 passengers were taken to hospitals in the southern city of Porto Alegre, about 965 miles southwest of Rio de Janeiro, said highway patrolman Decio Schirner. The bus, of Argentina's Ticsa lines, rolled over and wedged in a narrow gap between two bridges on either side of the highway about 36 miles northeast of Porto Alegre, Schirner said.

Dr. John Raymond Green PHOENIX (AP) Dr. John Raymond Green, 74, a founder of the Phoenix Barrow Neurological Institute, died Tuesday after a long illness. Green, a 1941 graduate of Northwestern University's medical school, helped found the institute on the grounds of St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in 1962.

He directed the institute until he retired in 1980. Ralph Heikklnen PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) Ralph Heikkinen, an All-America football player at the University of Michigan, died Thursday of heart failure at age 72. Heikkinen won All-America honors as a guard for the Wolverines. He briefly played professional football for the former Brooklyn Dodgers before he was cut in 1939.

Heikkinen spent 20 years as an attorney for General Motors Corp. A recovered alcoholic, he led the automaker's alcoholism program.
