A large delegation (about 45) from Huribut Poet, No. 165 of this city, went, on invitation, to Rockford last week Monday night to attend the Anniversary Camp Fire of NeviutPost of that city. Several other Posts of the Grand Army were also well represented, large numbers being present from Aurora, Capron, Marengo, Freeport, Pecatonica, and other places, and Nevius Post Hall wss on that occasion packed with about 600 old veterans of the ci vil war. The Rockford Post entertained their visiting comrades of the Grand Amy of the Republic with most generous hospitality, and all had a good time.

Speaking, frequent references to old camp life and army scenes, singing of army and patriotio songs, and recitations delivered by the numerous eloquent speakers present were kept up until a late hour. On behalf of Hurl-but Post Comrade Commander, C. B. Loop responded with happy remarks, and along about one o'clock in the morning Comrade W. W.

Wood was called to the stage and woke up the boys with some of his amusing anecdotes of the war and with a speech which was loudly applauded. Rations were served near midnight after which the exercises were continued with speaking or singing, until about 2 a. when the Belvidere and other Posts were escorted to the train going East The entertainment at the hall was continued for the benefit of Capron Post until 5 A. it, when they were escorted to their train. Only about 1,000 calves are raised, making it necessary to import 7,000 cows every year, at a cost of not less than $315,000.
