Race car wreck kills at least 16 NECOCHEA, Argentina (AP) A race car blew a tire and plunged into a crowd of spectators Sunday, killing at least 16 persons and injuring more than a dozen others. Authorities said the car, a Dodge driven by Argentine driver Edgardo Caparros, was participating in a Tourism class race for modified stock cars 375 miles south of Buenos Aires. Witnesses said Caparros, who was hospitalized, was going 125 mph when the tire blew and the vehicle overturned, rolling into a crowd of onlookers.

The race was suspended following the accident. Sunday and finished fourth at 5-under 283. Amy Alcott shot a 73 for a 284 and fifth place. Alice Ritzman and Colleen Walker finished six strokes back at 286. Ritzman shot a 72 and Walker a 73.

King's approach shot on 18 was a 5-wood 219 yards over the water hazard. Daniel tried to hit a 3-wood 211 yards, but the ball skipped on the water, hit the bank and fell back in. "I really thought it would skip over," Daniel said. Daniel, who hasn't won a tournament since 1985, said she was disappointed with the loss, but isn't giving up. "I've been close three tournaments in a row," Daniel said.

"I'll get there." "I don't feel like she gave the tournament away," King said. "Sometimes you play well and the score doesn't show it." PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii (AP) Betsy King says she couldn't have beaten Beth Daniel down the stretch in the LPGA Kemper Open on her own. "I didn't play that well she had to falter, King said. "I feel bad for Beth, she played a lot better than I did." King started Sunday's final round of the $300,000 tournament three strokes behind Daniel, who had led since the second round. King closed to within one stroke of Daniel on the 15th and overtook her on the 18th by hitting a risky approach shot over the water.

King landed the shot 40 feet away and two-putted for birdie. Daniel tried to match King's shot, but dropped it into the water and bogeyed the hole. Daniel said she planned to play for an easier shot, but King's effort left her no alternative. "It was Betsy's call," Daniel said. "She hit a great shot."
