A federal judge dismissed Shyatt's lawsuit that sought to stop Wyoming from collecting $383,849 officials say they are owed because the former coach left after one year of his five-year contract.

Shyatt's sued his former employer in May, claiming Wyoming athletic director Lee Moon said if Clemson came calling with the Tiger job which it did in April no buyout would be enforced. Since some of the negotiations took place in Clemson, Shyatt relied on Moon's word that the hefty buyout clause would not take effect when he accepted the Clemson job, the suit said. Despite "Shyatt's good-faith reliance on those assurances, the University of Wyoming now seeks to enforce the buyout provision," his suit said. University President Philip L. Dubois said Monday "this ruling upholds the sanctity of contracts signed by coaches who subsequently choose to break them in search of greener pastures." At Shyatt's welcoming press conference, the coach was asked about the buyout clause and how he would handle the nearly $400,000 payment.

He looked for his wife, Pam, and asked, "Did you bring the hat?" said. Joe McCulloch, the Columbia-based attorney representing the University of Wyoming, said officials there also are planning their next move. "I will say that the university intends to enforce their agreement with Shyatt and require the payment," he said. "This ruling upholds the sanctity of contracts signed by coaches who subsequently choose to break them in search of greener pastures," school President Philip L. Dubois said Monday.

Shyatt first sued in Pickens County on May 5, saying that Moon's promise was made in front of the coach's wife, Pam, and then-Clemson coach Rick Barnes, whose departure to Texas in April sent the Tigers looking for Shyatt, Barnes' former assistant. Shyatt's attorneys wanted the suit heard here. But U.S. District Judge Ross Anderson disagreed. "The major negotiations, the announcing of the selection of Shyatt as head coach, and the formal signing of the contract all occurred in places other than South Carolina," he said.

Anderson said he was not convinced that South Carolina residents' interests would be harmed if the suit was heard elsewhere. Shyatt's attorney, Steve Wynkoop, said his client is considering several options, including filing the case in Wyoming. "Coach Shyatt believes he can get a fair trail in Wyoming. He is a very popular coach and still has friends in Wyoming," Wynkoop A Voice Information Service jSr Accessible 24 Hours A Day Information At Your Fingertips Easy And Simple To Use Find out ilKou! your favorite icsliuu mil's daily specials, the lie weal niriiiils on llic uscfl enr lot, lliul grout house llml's just gone on lie iiifirkVl, or I lie spcciul snlc dial's in progress, ('nil mid lem what's lioiiigiplanncil ly your church, cluli or civic group. With so much focus on the England soccer team's progress at the World Cup, he said he felt less pressure than ever before. "I do feel very, very relaxed about the whole situation," Henman said. "I surprised myself a i little bit, how relaxed I was." Rafter, the No.

6 seed, received treatment for a lower back problem in the fourth set and said he was playing at "90 percent." Still, Rafter was holding his own in the fourth set and earned a break point. But Henman then served a second-serve ace to save the break point and won four straight games to close out the match. WIMBLEDON, England (AP) Henmania lives. For the third straight year, Tim Henman has reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals, raising Britain's hopes of having its first male champion since 1936. Feeding off the frenzied support of the Centre Court crowd, the 12th-seeded Henman downed U.S.

Open champion Patrick Rafter of Australia 6-3, 6-7 (7-3), 6-3, 6-2. "To walk out on a court when it was full as that, it gives you a buzz," Henman said. "I think I've shown in the past and I've shown again that I do respond to that." Henman described Monday's win as "one of "That's an instinct," he said of the ace. "I went for it, and hit the line and that was probably the most important second serve of the match." Henman next faces No. 3 Petr Korda, the Australian Open champion who downed John van Lottum in straight sets.

Korda strained his left Achilles' tendon in the third set, but said he plans to play Wednesday. "If it's going to be nice weather, I'll be there," he said. Based on the weather so far, that's no certainty. Monday was the fifth day affected by rain delays, and more showers were forecast for today. They didn't just win, they survived a heart-stopping scare, needing two goals 1 1 minutes apart deep in the second half to beat Mexico.

The quarterfinal field will be filled today, and on the eve of the match between Argentina and England there was more fan violence. A sudden show of force by riot troops triggered insults, scuffles and wild baton charges early today in the center of Saint-Etienne, where the game will be played tonight. PARIS (AP) Both favorites won. Both by 2-1. That doesn't come close to telling the story.
