One night while reading a copy of Captain Charles Johnson "History of the Mrs. Osborne discovered Anne Bonny, and there and then she decided to tell the atory of this adventuresome female pirate. For nine months, Mrs. Osborne labored at the Library of Congress and finally finished the first draft of her book. Howard I.

Chapelle, an authority on old ships at the Smithaonian, read the manuscript and made a few changes. Mrs. Osborne then hired an agent and set about trying to find a publisher for the book. After many rejections, Mrs. Osborne became discouraged and decided to give up her ambitions as a novelist and work at being a good housewife.

After her husband's retirement from the Air Force, the family moved to Athens, where Mrs. Osborne decided to take a few courses at the University there and possibly work toward a Masters degree.
