Simple Routine Necessary to Secure Warehousing Act Loan DES MOINES routine that must be followed by farmers who desire to borrow money, under the state warehousing act is comparatively simple, according to Carl V. Kennedy, assistant to Mark G. Thornburg, state secretary of agriculture.

Outlined briefly the essential steps are: 1. Organize a county warehouse joard if necessary (approximately two-thirds of Iowa's counties already have such boards). 2. Call the county sealer, appointed by the warehouse board, who will measure the corn and issue warehouse certificates. 3.

The warehouse certificates may then be used as collateral with such credit organizations as the Farmers Credit company of Ottumwa and the Farmers Elevator company of Fort Dodge. In such organizations, of which Kennedy said the state needs more, loans are made on warehouse certificates to the extent of 75 per cent of the current market value of the corn. Interest rates r.t present run about per cent, Kennedy said, and loans usually are made for periods of six months. Aside from the interest the farmer must pay a sealer fee which Kennedy estimated at one-half cent per bushel but which may run as high as one cent per bushel. The corn likewise must be insured and all liens waived.
