Holderman said Friday the final touches are being put on the report of an in-house probe and that he plans to meet with the Intercollegiate Activities Committee of the Board of Trustees this week to discuss the investigation's findings. He said he expected to have a copy of the finished report by Monday, and Holderman said how much of the report is made public depends on how much the "NCAA will want us to release." "Fortunately, we haven't had much experience in matters like this. So we're treading softly.

But we want to do things right and in accordance with NCAA wishes," Holderman said. "In the past, they have not been pleased when schools released findings of an investigation before they (the NCAA) have received it." Louis Sossamon, a representative on the Board of Trustees from Gaffney and chairman of the Intercollegiate Activities Committee, said he hasn't seen the report in writing. But he said the committee plans to make the content of the report public after given the proper clearance by the NCAA. "I have seen nothing in writing whatsoever and that's the way the committee agreed to handle it when the investigation Sossamon "Dr, Holderman has assured us that once he receives the report, he will make it public knowledge." The report will be forwarded to the NCAA's headquarters in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, following this week's meeting. Holderman said he could only speculate as to how long the NCAA would consider the report before deciding what action, if any, it would take, but he suspected it could be "as late as January or February." The investigation has centered on allegations of illegal gifts and trips for Gamecock basketball players as well as charges that alumni provided high-paying summer jobs for players that required little or no work.

There also were charges that players illegally sold their complimentary season tickets to alumni and friends of the program for large profits. As a result, senior guard Michael Foster was forced to sit out the first three games this season, and sophomore forward John Breckenridge is sitting out the first 17 games..
