They left there on October 22 to arrive in Los Angeles and then on to Fresno and Reedley Explorers Host Reedley Explorer Post 284 played host to a Queen Contest in the Lincoln School auditorium on November 10 with contestants from the local post Selma Sanger Parller and Caruthers competing Miss Jill Woods of the Selma Post was selected as the girl to represent the Kings River District Explorers as their Queen candidate at the Sequoia Council Explorer Ball on the 28th of November at Del Webbs TowneHouse in Fresno Miss Woods is a senior in Selma High School and has taken active part in die speech and drama clubs She served two years as a cheer leader and a member of the rally committee She also won the District Lions Club Speech cm test Jill has also been the Queen of Hearts and 1st alternate in die Miss Sun Maid Contest The Council Queen will be selected at the Ball which will be held in the Chablis room This annual semi formal social highlights die year end activities of the 500 Explorers in this Council Miss Woods will reign over all Explorer activities this coming year 1965 The other queen contestants were Yvonne McDowell Post Queen of Explores Post 395 Selma sponsored by the Methodist Men Linda Gomes Queen for Post 403 sponsored by the Caruthers Lions Toni Filgas Queen for Post 393 sponsored by the Selma Rotary Club Trudy Boyer Queen of Post 284 sponsored by the Reedley Kiwanls Club and Kristi Austin Queen of Post 300 sponsored by the American Legion Post No 36 Parlier A visit to St Peter's Cathedral the United Nations: Palace the Matterhorn were just a few of the sights visited by Mr and Mrs JH Carpenter on their European tour recently The Reedley pair visited Scotland Ireland England Austria Germany Italy France Holland Switzerland and Africa They left Fresno on August 20th and arrived in San Francisco that same day to join the main tour party They flew to New York and were there until August 31 where they were able to attend the World's Fair before embarking on their main tour They arrived in Scotland on September 1st and went sightseeing in Edinburgh where they visited the Edinburgh Castle and saw the performance of the Tattoo They also attended the evening performance of "Ballet Africaine" In Ireland where they arrived on September 6 they visited Dublin Killarney and the Dromoland Castle where they had dinner and spent the night From there on September 12 they went to London and saw the many interesting places such as Windsor Castle Waterloo Station and Buckingham Palace Ron London they went to Hamburg Germany and to Berlin where they went to the- Western Sector and on to Munich Frankfurt Salzburg and then to Vienna and Rone where they toured the Vatican Museum St Peter's Basilica and the Partheon the Borghese Villa and many cither points of interest The Carpenters toured through Nice Menton and the famous casino in Monti Carlo On October 6 they arrived in Switzerland and enjoyed the lovely Swiss Alps and toured the large white United Nations Palace in the Ariana Park and the International Labor Office visited Montreuz and the Lake of Geneva On October 15 they arrived in Holland where they stayed in Amsterdam to visit its picturesque 1 buildings' and a' diamond cutlery and see how diamonds are cut and polished and prepared for market They Let us all truly celebrate our holiday by going to Church this Thanksgiving thanking Him in person for the many blessings of the year Then we can return to our homes filled with the meaning of our abundant tables our warm gatherings Miss Key William A Conrad and Katina Key announced their engagement at an open house in the home of the bride elect's parents Mr and Mis James KevofDinuba Miss Key is a graduate of the Dinuba High School and Reedley College She is
