TIIEEVDEXOIIMAL Page 10A FRIDAY EUGION Oct.4,199 revivals scheduled United Methodist Church will have a yard and bake sale Saturday MA -r MINISTER'S DESK No greater love By DR. CLIFF VICARS Pastor, Trinity Church Feb. 3, 1985, was a typical Sunday. I had been guest preacher for a youth revival in Batesburg, S.C. After the evening service, the pastor and his wife asked me to stop by their home for supper.

As we sat around the family table. I was impressed with the close relationship these people enjoyed. The center of attention that evening was their teen-age son. He was an affable young man. I laughed at his humor and enjoyed his presence.

I last saw him about a year ago. He had become a man of faith. His name was Russ Sorrow. Russ was killed recently while on duty as a Greenville city policeman. In speaking of Jesus, John wrote, "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." Most of us spend our lives struggling to be relevant.

We want to make a difference, a contribution to the greater good of society. Often this struggle tempts us to take a shortcut to fame and fortune, neither of which are relevant. It is in the death of Christ that we find the true meaning of our own significance as people. By living like Jesus we learn how to make a difference. Russ Sorrow learned how to make a difference.

And now he teaches us. Oct 11 at 7:30 p.m. at South Greenwood Assembly of God on Highway 34. See HOMECOMINGS, Page 11A We went to dinner with some friends a few nights ago and after we all had ordered and were served, one of the members in our party remarked that maybe he should have ordered the same meal as one of the other guests because it looked better than his.

Whether it's the dinner, the neighbor's grass, or your friend's car. we should try to be content with what the good Lord has blessed us with. It is perfectly natural to admire someone else's possessions or attributes and a sincere compliment to them is a nice gesture: however, there is a great difference between admiration and jealous coveting. Covetousness is a deep desire to have something that belongs to someone else, and it is a sin against God. Every day we can read in the newspaper of crimes committed by people cheating 1 and stealing from others.

We should pray for God's grace to help us realize how green our grass truly is. OAKBROOIC MEMORIAL PARK Hwy. 25 N. 229-1559 Keith Parks will preach Sunday at First Baptist Church. He is Global Missions coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
