the sick He took over the old Tcbbe hotel and it was not long until the name of Dr Ah Sang Chinese healer was known across the continent People came from far and near He had patients as far east as Chicago Later Dr Ah Sang married a Chinese girl named Lizzie in San Francisco There are Mill a number who remember the arrival erf Dr Ah Sang and his bride "Lizzie as she was called in her mountain home Here a real celebration was held and tlicy were again mar lied in the American way lived FLEA VALLEY Flea Valley was located above Dcadwood At this settlement there was a saloon and grocery iiore The proprietor of the first hotel was Gus Fairbanks and after his death was managed by his wife Among the early day settlers was George A Ducnsing and wire Betty Mr Ducnsing came to California around the liom in 1850 Mr and Mrs Ducnsing lived above the Fairbanks place Mrs Betty Dueusing operated the hotel at Flea Valley from 1880 to 1N7 after the Fairbanks moved away Another early day resident was Mr and Mrs William Thunen Mr Thuncn came from many to the United States settling in Iowa where he worked as a blacksmith Here he married Miss Johanna Tcbbe also a native of Germany In the year 18f2 or 63 they crossed the plains to California and settled in Flea Valley and later lived at Cherokee and Orovilie They had ten ions and daughters Lizzie Mary Fred Gerhard Henry William John Edward Frank and Charles When they first settled here the Flea Valley region was infested with -wild bands of Indians In 1865 Mrs Thunen witnessed the results of an Indian massacre and at her home frontiersmen
