becoming more acute daily in South San Francisco is downtown parking Several weeks ago the possibility of a solution was given through suggestion that a new method of parking be tried other than parallel parking Close study of the condition has proven that diagonal parking has its problem in caring for large old-fashioned cars with long wheelbase showing by experimentation that approximately only two feet clearance is left for street cars on certain model cars It would also create a difficult problem for trucks unloading in the street This brings us to a second phase of the situation In order to clear the car tracks leave room for another car to pass while at the same time parking diagonally it would be necessary to cut three feet off the width of each sidewalk If we would eventually accomplish a solution the improvement might be made as many another project has been carried out in recent the city furnish the material and the national government furnish the labor An inexpensive method of benefitting our city However the problem is a gigantic one in that it involves moving telephone and power lines and this procedure would necessarily cost businessmen added assessment to replace their light and phone leads from the front tor the rear of the buildings Whether these 'same merchants feel the increased attractiveness and facility would come back in a greater volume of business to compensate for the expenditure is of course a conjectural matter A We are of the opinion that it could not miss and would be the first step in making South San Francisco a more representative buying center and capable of serving the 7000 citizens who reside in this area (Continued on Page 2) New Store Planned for Grand Ave New One-Story Building To Be Built in 300 Block WORK
