for the two transbay bridges planned for the peninsula went forward during the past week Surreys soundings etc looking toward the construction of a bridge at Coyote Point were to hare started early this week but It was stated at the offlce of John Leonard engineer who will hare much of the work In charge that weather conditions were such the work could not begin It was declared however that contracts had been made for tugs and other boats to be used In the first step of the work A new development Is that a company Is being formed to construct an electric car line across the bridge from San Mateo to Hayward This Information was made public from the office of A Pistoles! a San Francisco engineer who has been prominent In the Coyote Point bridge project It Is stated that the corn-pay Is to be known as the San Mateo Hayward Belt Line Railroad San Francisco interests are very much alive to development possibilities on the peninsula In the near future A speaker at the meeting of the San Francisco Electric Development League at the Palace Hotel Monday stated: Little Coyote Point bridge will be the largest concrete bridge of Its width and length of span In the world When this bridge Is completed it will serve according to figures recently compiled about 1600000 people who live around the San Francisco bay district and the Interior valleys of California This bridge directly connects the peninsula region wltlj this Interior valley empire and will as a consequence become a tremendous factor In the colonisation of northern and central California's splendid agricultural lands Agriculturists all over the country agree that nothing brings more progress to a farming community than adequate connection with the distrlbutory centers and this Is just what the bridge will do the bridge will be built by John Lyle Harrington a well known bridge engineer sof Kansa City the name of his contracting firm being Harrington Howard A Ash The bridge long planned by the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce and first proposed by Fred Drake of San Carlos according to reports here will parallel the present Dumbarton span of the Southern Pacific and will be 6600 feet in length It will be Francisco on the Mojave desert near El Centro Nichols the murdered man was a cousin of Mrs Dun can of this city and a sister of Mre Duncan lived with Mr and Mrs Nichole at their San Francisco home The murder of Nichole an auto Insurance adjuster was brutal almost beyond belief He had picked two youths each 18 years or age up on the desert road and given them a ride in his car They killed him accord liquor In the honse Orro was 27 years of age and was married last summer his wife being at present 111 in the county hospital at San Francisco Vina is a young man of about 23 or 24 of good appearance Francisco Chamber of Commerce was the appointment of a new secretary Summerfield McCarteney being the name of the man chosen The appointment' was made at a special meeting of the directors held Tuesday evening at the city hall Mr McCarteney will take up the duties of his secretaryship next Monday morning At present he is employed as advertising man by a large Ann of bond brokers In San Francisco The new secretary of the local Chamber comes to this city very well recommended and with an excellent record Before the war he was assistant secretary of the Chamber of Commerce end later manager of the Association of Miami Fla During the war he served in hospital and publicity work for the United States government in France and other European countries In 1920 ha was made stats organiser for California in the very successful Salvation Army drive and later held the same position for Ken' tucky since which time he has taken a course of study In city planning at ths Northwestern University He speaks Italian French and Spanish besides English The new directors appointing Mr McCarteney are Andrew Hyndlng Henry Minnucclanl Truax and Fred Lautxe These five received the highest number of votes cast last Saturday at the election held in A offlce Nearly fifty votes were cast Dr Dolley succeeded himself as president SCREEN CLUB FLANS SHOW A vaudeville show and dance Is to be given at Fraternal Hall Friday evening by the Screen Service Club of San Francisco After the show a talk on motion pictures will be given by Clayton Packard which will be followed by a dance
