Congress Wives Collect Recipes For Cookbook BY JANE EADS WASHINGTON Recipes of the "outs" don't help sell the cookbook for the "ins." wives of members of the 84th Congress agreed when con they decided to publish a new edition of their own Congressional Club Cookbook. Favorite recipes of the lawmakers' wives, gathered into a cookbook and widely used, have helped them to have a meeting place of their own. The third edition, published in 1948, paid off the last mortgage on their clubhouse and subsequent editions have supported it. The new book, due in September, will be a personalized, looseleaf edition with one reip from each of the 337 members photographed for reproduction in their own handwriting.

It will cost around $3. "With the turnover in Congress and changing it's difficult to keep the book current," Mrs. Abernethy, wife of the Democratic congressman from Mississippi, cookbook committee chairman, told me. "The new members don't want to buy the old one because they don't want to send it to anyone wihou heir own recipe in it: With loose-leaf type we add or remove recipes with each new 'Congress. Mrs.

Eisenhower and Mrs. Nixon, wif eof the vice president, each has been invited to a -recipe for the new book. Past ditions have included favorite dishes of Mrs. Franklin Roosevelt, Mrs. Calvin Coolidge and Mrs.

Truman. Bess Truman's recipe for Ozark Pudding caused quite a to-do because people didn't follow the rules to beat it by hand and it didn't turn out the way it should. Each member is being asked to submit three recipes from which one will be selected. "We found we got too many recipes for -salads or desserts." Mrs. Abernethy explained.

"Once we got eight recipes for th same kind of cookie." Three members who have had home economics training are on the committee. They are th wives of Congrssmen Harold Lovre (R-SD), Ralph Harvey (R-Ind), and George Andrews (D-Ala). "They all have real cookbook sense," Mrs. added. Mrs.

Reach down and -lift me Till my weak feet stand, As Your child's should, Upon Your own right hand Then hold me steady Till once more I see Your plan 1 in life, Your battling spark: in me Then give me courage Once again to face The fact that I Must make and hold my place Against despair That I may have large adventure As I'll dare And Know As much of freedom As I've grit to take. And make me see, For any mess I'm in, There's just one decent answer TAKE IT ON THE CHINI God, I'm so blue!
