Mr. Melaas has had no experience in public affairs and is making his canvass on his nationality. The following telegram is evidence that he Was brought out by Connor, the stalwart leader, who is using the well-known corporation tactics and spending ilot of money to defeatLa Follette and all his friends: of WHioiia men.

but not a practical medium of exchange. The medium of exchange is the life-blood of trade, commerce and business. The control of the medium of exchange means the absolute conr-trol of business. The money of the country has become centered in Wall Street and is controlled by hajf a dozen menlj j. You remember the panic Qf 1907 That panic was made by those in control of the large financial institutions of.

Wall Street in order to de-press prices and to get property on their Own terms. It was a money panic. Wall street went on a strike. The money of the nation was depos ited there. The money kings held it and would not pay it out.

The banks of the nation were made insolvent in a day. They could not pay. There was no failure of crops. There was neither war, pestilence oor famine, Wall Street went on a strike. Mills, mines, factories and banks went down in the crash The interests gathered theni' in.

Tucker, candidate -for Attorney General undoubtedly has made sbme enemies at'Hurley where he secured the removal from office of the sheriff and district attorney for nonenforcementiof the law, at Green Bay where he secured the removal of the distriot attorney of Barron county. He is. a terror to evil doers; He knows the law and is not afraid to enforce it. He is and always' has been a consistent Progrewiro Bepublicui. and oor readers can make-no mistake by voting for him at the primaries Sept.

6. We take liberty to reproduce a few of the things said of him: Neillsville Republican and Press of Mr. Tucker began ythe practice law here and soon took high rank in his profession. He has a keenly analytic mind, a thorough legal training and is a tireless and resourceful worker. He is honest and fearless in the performance of duty, but gen Spirited, as a to see.

Tucker is a born and and is well known in this county. He was for two years principal of the Omro high school, cashier of the Bank of Omro, assemblyman frotii this, third, district, for ttjree terms He is much beloved by the people here. Heres to you, old friend, and hoping you may win out. .9 Iron town Times. There are some former residents of Hurley whose present postoffice addresses are now unknown who also cherish a cordial hatred for the assistant attorney gen oral of Wisconsin.

Mepomonie Falls News. His work at Hurley and elsewhere ha established a new, doctrine in this state concerning the enforcement of Prosecdting officers may no longer permitgambling houses and other dlTeB r.tnyk openly, whilp they wait for sonip private citizen a iomJpUioit. Against offensei of sucb Madison, Aug. 22. At a meeting here Saturday of progressive candi dates jtnd other leaders from all parts of the state, it was announced that the La Follette campaign committee had thus far expended 63,600 in this campaign.

Many, estimates have been made as to how much the opposition has expended and 'will hereafter spend in its effort to down the progressive movement in Wisconsin; The very lowest estimate expressed was that Mr. Connors committee had expended 626 to every one expended for La Follette and that the stalwarts would spend not less than $50,000 within the two next weeks. Mr. Connor has paid workers in every county and in many precincts, some of them, it is reported, receive as miich as $8 a day. At this rate a thousand dollars is a mere, bagatelle and it is within the realm of probability' that the opposition to La Follette will spend half a dollars in its efforts to defeat him.

The La Follette supporters are volunteers, working without pay. About 100 of these progressives visited Senator La Follette at his hbme and he made tfiem a short address, thanking them for their personal support and urging them to make the fight for principles, without compromising. The contest, he said, isnot against Aldrich and Cannon, except as these are phases of the struggle; the fight is against the domination, of the money power and must, determine whether the people shall govern themselves or whether they ahaljL.be ruled by an oligarchy. Up to he present time no progressive candidate for re electiotv to congress has been defeated in any state while in Iowa, Kansas, California and Jin other states man stand pat members have been elected to stay at home and heiy-plaees will be fill- ed-by progressive. Wisconsin led in the fight for progressive principles and has been followed by other states.

Senator La Follelte is everywhere recognized as the leader of the opposition to organized wealth. Will Wisconsin turn down its great leader and abandon the work il has so nearly completed or will it continue to set the paoe for others and encourage them with its example? It is up to the voters to answer this (question. not vote for any candidate unless you know where he stands on the important issues. All the stalwart candidates claim to be progressive and are trying to deceive the voters. Make no mistake in voting.

If you are in doubt as to which candidate is reliable, ask a reliable gressive friend, Remember Hudnall, Bancroft, Gunderson Cleary are among the stalwarts should be defeated. Colliers for August 20th contains a fine tribute to the work, worth and 9 1 leadership of Senator La Follette. Millions of people are watching the fight in Wisconsin to see whether the people will return him to the United States Senate or replace him with a representative of Wall street like Aldrich of Rhode Island or Lor-rimer of Illinois. Bancroft passed through here in an auto last Saturday on his way to Gays Mills where he made a political speech in the afternoon, Bancroft is a candidate for Attorney General and his work in defeating the twine plant bill, after a previous legislature had appropriated money for the same and a large amount of work had been done, will no doubt get him a large vote the Lthajitateomplaining about the pri- maty and how expensive it is." Such Suoh men as Connor and Philipp may need him for attorney general but THE PEOPLE dont need him. We hope, and expect, to see him turned down, and turned down good and hard, at the primaries Sept.

6. Senator Geo. B. Hudnell, stalwart candidate for Lieutenant Governor is posing- as a Progressive and a friend of: Senator La Follette. Senator Hudnall made one straight progressive speech for the Rate bill which passed both houses without one dissenting vote.

On practically every other progressive measure he was more or less influenced by the counsel of Senator Whitehead, tbe stalwart leader. His partner, H. Grace, is a member of Connors stalwart campaign committee and presented Hud nails name at the recent stalwart meeting at Milwaukee. Senator Thomas Morris of La Crosse is the Progressive candidate for Lieutenant Governor. See that he is supported.

The Lieutenant Governor becomes the president of tbe senate and is a power in the legislature. If you favor La Follette vote for Morris. Progresfives should not be disturbed by any reports circulated' at the' last moment concerning La Follette or any. other Progressive candidate. It is expeoted that the opposition will distribute fifty tons of lit- throughout the at.te the last week of the campaign.

In every preceding contest such literature contained falsehoods and misrepresentations. Wisconsin voters ought to be sufficiently forewarned not to be deceived by. suob i speaking in the. interest of Capt Lewis for Governor, said that the reason Lewis has not voted for some time, he has been so busy looking after his bnsi- ness; has made or three trips a year to Europe to establish agencies I'for his automobile, that he has not found time to vote. When the train had backed out to where it switches off to cross the rivCr to Me Gregor, the conductor assisted the young lady off and directed her up town. Chris thinking she had gone to McGregor, wanted to. go over there to get her, but upon the advice of friends, he patiently awaited the arrival of the next train from that place. The train arrived in due time but no bride was visible anywhere and Chris was becoming frantic and hysterical after vain searching thru the whole train without finding her. Upon enquiry he elicited the information from the conductor, that 0 the young lady, had got off the train at the switch and had gone up town, actual tears of joy stood in Chris eyes when his bride to be was in the Prairie City and not lost, strayed or stolen.
