St. Patrick's Day Dance Scheduled Markets Belvidere Daily Republican, Friday, March 11, St. Patrick's Knights of Columbus in Belvidere will sponsor a St. Patrick's Day dance from 9 p.m. to midnight on Thursday, March 17, at the American Legion.

Arrangements are being made by a committee headed by Ed Dooley. The Serenaders orchestra will furnish music for the dance. A 200-pound pig will be awarded to one of the participants. Russell L. Edwards, son of Mrs. Nellie Edwards, 711 Hancock stret, completed the eightweek communications center operation course Feb. 26 at. The Southeastern Signal school, Fort Gordon, Ga.

Edwards was trained to receive, process and relay messages by various means of communication. The 19-year-old soldier entered the army in October 1959, and received basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Before entering the army, Edwards was employed by J. C. Penny company.

He is a 1958 graduate of Belvidere high school. MFT REPORTED Belvidere will receive $3,863 as its share of the motor tax paid into the state treasury during February according to a state finance department report released Friday. Robert Blake and a talk on the value of the precinct worket by Miss Ruth Helligas during the regular meeting of the club Tuesday in the Boone County Court house. Mrs. Blake told of the meeting held in Chicago when six candidates for the GOP senate nomination were guest speakers. The six are William H. Rentschler, Samuel W.

Witwer, John A. Ricker, John W. Lewis, John R. Harrell and Warren Wright. Miss Helligas, as a program feature, spoke of the precinct workef, or the "'Grassroots of the party.

She reminded the group that the precinct is the foundation of the party. Two important jobs which must be done on the precinct level, she said, are getting the Republican voters to the polls on election day and getting the younger voters interested in and active in the work and purpose of the party. Miss Helligas stressed that March 14 is the final day of registration and the first day to apply for absentee ballots. Mrs. Blake presided at the session, during which change in the regular meeting day was made since the scheduled day conflicts with primary election day April 12.

The meeting will be held instead on April 19 in the court house. Mrs. Donald McKibben was elected chairman of the telephone committee of the club. After the meeting Mrs. Robert Inman, and Mrs.

Paul Albrecht served refreshments. The executive board held a short business meeting. in conjunction with Tuesday's meeting, during which standing committees gave reports. Mrs. Blake announced that Governor William Stratton's trip through our area will possibly bring him into Boone county Thursday afternoon, March 17.

Offer Swimming To Handicapped Miss Betty Sands announced Friday that a swimming class for physically handicapped children get under way Monday, March 21, at the Rockford College pool. The service is offered free of charge to children with all types of physical handicaps including polio, cerebral palsy, club foot, heart trouble and may others. Qualified persons will work with each child individually and will try to follow any- recommendations of the family physician. Persons interested. in having their children enroll in the class are asked to notify Miss Sands, an instructor at Washington Junior high school.

Arrest Three In Narcotics Sales CHICAGO AP Federal agents Wednesday night arrested three men described as among the largest wholesalers of narcotics in the nation. George Belk, federal narcotics bureau chief, said the arrests were the biggest haul top wholesalers since 1952 and put a serious crimp in the heroin traffic in the Midwest and West Coast." Belk identified the trio as Anthony Dichiarinte, 42, of suburban Lincolnwood. Salvatore Pisano, 53, of Chicago, and Spartico Mastro, 42, of suburban River Forest. Pisano moved the drugs through his fruit stand, Belk said. The investigation leading to the arrests began in 1955, Belk said, with the arrest of a dope peddler in Los Angeles.

The peddler was carrying pure heroin and papers indicating he made frequent trips to Chicago, Belk said. The trail led to Pisano's fruit stand. Belk said, where last August an undercover agent bought $15,000 worth of heroin which would have been worth between $80,000 and $100,000 when prepared for distribution. State Dial LI 4-8932 Deaths Funerals Masonic Rites Set For Carlson Masonic funeral rites will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Atkins Johnson funeral home for Theodore (Ted) Carlson, who died in Hayward, Tuesday. The Rev. Joseph Cleveland of the Second Congregational church of Rockford will be the officiating clergyman.

Mr. Carlson, 8 former employe of the Parsons Casket Hardware company, and later a resort operator in Wisconsin, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gus Carlson. He was 55 years old.

He was a member of Belvidere Lodge No. 60, A. F. and A. Freeport Consistory and the Tebala Temple Shrine, Rockford.

Survivors include the wife, Margaret, and a sister, Mrs. 0. E. Scott of Wilmette. He was a World War veteran.

Rites were held in Hayward Thursday. Military rites will be given at the graveside in Belvidere cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday night. JOSRITAL HIGHLAND Linda Knutson, eight year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

C. Both Hospitals Are Accredited St. Joseph's and Highland hospitals of Belvidere are listed as accredited hospitals in the 1960 publication of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. The commission serves as an agency established by four organizations, including the American College of Physicians, American College of Surgeons, American Hospital association and the Amerlean Medical association, to conduct the hospital survey and inspection program initiated by the American College of Surgeons in 1919. Dr.

Kenneth B. Babcock, commission director, said that accreditation means that a hospital has voluntarily submitted to a survey of its facilities and its patient care and that it has received a badge of recognition which the hospital can display to its community to prove that it conforms to high standards of patient care. Dr. Babcock said surveyors, all physicians, rate a hospital on certain basic requirements, such as a safe, physical plant free from fire hazards, careful supervision and 1 review by the medical staff of the patient care rendered in the hospital, special study by the medical staff of all unusual or complicated cases. adequate medical records, ethical practics, investigation of all tissue removed at operation, proper nursing care and proper administrative and medical staff organization.

Marengo High To Give Concert The Marengo high school Concert and Cadet bands, under the direction of John Griesemer, will present a public concert at 8 p.m. Friday in the high school. Family or single tickets may be purchased at the door. To open the program the Concert band will play "Grand Festival," Lullaby," "Dance of the Rose Maidens, bone" and "El Caballero." Included in this band are sophomores, juniors and five seniors who have been in band all four years. They are Bill Courier, James Schneider, Bruce Baker, Stephen Weech and Helen Markison.

The Cadet band, made up entirely of freshman, will continue the program with "Activity," "Bolero Non, Tune" and Cabana. Carol Gromer will be featured in a flute solo, "Pan, after which a senior clarinet quartet of Bonita Benecke, "Arlette Boeldt, Karen Wilcox and Bill Carlson will play Bagatelles. Stephen Weech will follow with a saxophone solo of after which "Three Blind Mice" will be played by the junior clarinet quartet of Kathy Daniels, Judy Svatik, Karen Wirsing and Dorothy Hasty. Kerosene Fire Causes Damage Kerosene, ignited by the heat of an oil stove, caused considerable smoke damage to the upstair apartment at 321 West Pleasant street about 6:45 a.m. Friday, but Belvidere firemen were able to check the flames before they spread.

Firemen 'identified the occupant of the apartment as Lucille Flawless. She told them that kerosene had spilled on the floor and caught fire and she used rags to mop the burning fuel. Pundt, former Belvidere resident, to the helm of the Milwaukee Training center of Pontiac motors is featured in the December edition of Pontiac Craftsman Service News. Pundt graduated in 1945 from Belvidere high school where he was active in football, basketball and track.
