It appears that Governor Deneen did not entirely overlook poone county In the delivery of plums at the great tree shaking of June 30, when he named a large number of appointees in time so that they would come under the new civil service law which became effective July 1. Lee Coleman, who has Been an en thusiastic supporter of the fortunes of the governor received an appoint ment as county fish commissioner of Boone bounty, the appointment be ing made at the same time as were the others in the big batch. He has accepted the appointment, which became effective on the first day of July. Mr. Coleman's friends will be glad to know that his services have been recognized Ay the governor.

To a representatfo of The Republican Mr. Coleman last evening expressed himself as being well satisfied with the appointment given him, in fact, he could have had any one of several others had he said the word. But while several of the others would have given him a higher salary they would have necessitated his going away from home, or perhaps remov ine from BelvlderV Therefore, he felt that a place that would permit him to remain here and attend to the ice business which he has bulit up to goodly proportions this summer was preferable to one that would take him away even though there. was1 more money sight in the other place. For this rea son he decided to take the fish com-mlssionership.
