GOP Today (Thursday) is Thanksgiving It is the day on which you are supposed to pause for a moment and count your blessings to gather-your thoughts in a time out period and realize that we live in a free country that we as Americans have priviledges that are not possessed anywhere else In the world Although the span' between Thanksgiving consumes 364 days many of which have been hard and some almost unbearable our possessions of freedom and peace of mind so completely outweigh our sorrows and our misgivings that in spite of anything we still have abundance of wealth both spiritually and materially We should always be proud that we are Americans that we have freedom of speech freedom of religion and freedom to do and act as we may so desire Little did our forefathers realize when they sat down to that first Thanksgiving dinner 332 years ago that this America would be called upon to undergo scoreless wars that we would lose thousands ot sons who Journeyed to far off lands to fight to preserve tha same freedom which was so instilled in the Pilgrims that they chanced the crossing of the ocean in a completely unsafe ship We as Americans have never fought a losing battle in our con stant aim to preserve peace and ran quility Every day our tasks seems to be greater but by the same token our aims and ideals are higher and although our goat has only been reached for a fev short years at various times since the landing of the Pilgrims we are still striving to attain that one little word Today is no different than an other day in this short span of life The world Is still torn by hatred by petty animosities by sorrows and by what sometimes seems tv be almost insurmountable obstacles we are still a free people and we wiH live Just as that if we live at alL Traditions tells us that we as Americans have the right to eat drink and be merry that we have the right to expect ireedom in our homes our schools and our churches that we are expected to live as decent men and women ana that our conscience should be our guide Thanksgiving is a naional festival fixed by proclamation of the president and the governors fates and ranks as a legal day Let this Thanksgiving as have all the others be a happy one Lei it he a day of rest of goodfellow-ship or rejoicing If our troubles of the past have overshadowed our Joys let us look to the future for that divine happiness we all so
